If DLR and Sam are both there, I think it becomes a clusterfuck. I would love to think more of them, but I honestly don't.

Will be glad to be proven wrong, but I don't see any way you can have a successful tribute to Ed that will satisfy Al, DLR and Sam and get them all to participate in it willingly. And without them, what kind of tribute is it?

Just my $0.02, as I said, would love to be wrong.

Also, as previously mentioned, if it isn't huge, don't do it. Nothing would be more depressing to see it being in some little club.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

If Sam and Dave canít put their big boy pants on for a tribute to their dead bandmate, then they really push Van Halen into a whole other echelon of dysfunctional, when it comes to bands.

    Thumbs up

Sammy & Mike have already said they would play at an EVH Tribute. We'll see if Dave does. I hope he does.

If Dave doesnít want to, then unfortunately thatís too bad. Leave him out of it.

If Al and Wolf are on board, everybody else should fall in line. Whoever doesnít want to swallow their fucking pride and be there can get fucked.

Sammy of course will say that, then he will start negotiating how many songs from his era are played vs DLR's, etc., and it becomes a huge fucking mess.

Remember the parable of the scorpion and the frog? It's in Sam and DLR's nature to make it about them.

I hate to agree with you about this but I do. There's more evidence of Sam and Dave's tendencies to make things about them than not. Do they even know what 'humble' means?

I'd like to think that a tribute show for a special talent and friend like Eddie Van Halen would be different. And it just may be. But there's always that chance...

But, again, how do you have a tribute show without them?

    Quite easily, Iíd think.

Have it be an All-Star Tribute to Eddie van Halen with a whole shitload of guitar badasses. Much like Ed and others honoured Les Paul in 88í. He hadnít died but thatís not the point.

Or like the Kennedy Centre Honors. It will never be that big but something similar would be nice.

Bottom line is that many will be unsatisfied and disappointed, regardless of what the setup/lineup is.

    Potential Gripe List

    - Eddie Trunk hosting
    - Wrong venue
    - Improper decor
    - Slash is there
    - Slash plays VH song
    - No EVH guitars???
    - Nobody sounded like Ed
    - Dave Grohl speaks
    - Sammy Hagar speaks
    - Dave didnt sing Dreams
    - The lighting was too dark
    - Carvin amps on the stage?
    - Steve Vai butchered On Fire and didnt play it right
    - Smelled like fish in the venue
    - Alex didnt play
    - Too many cell phones in the crowd
    - Stripes on Joe Satrianiís tribute EVH Ibanez were not correct and looked like shit
    - Satch is a wanker
    - Dweezil should have played Eruption, not Nuno
    - Vai didnít even two-handed tap correctly
    - The crowd was so fucking lame
    - They played too many Van Hagar songs
    - It should have been all Roth
    - Roth sounded horrible
    - Why the fuck was Bryan Adams there?
    - Sammy sounded terrible
    - The drummers sucked and missed so many high hat cues
    - Sammy should have just kept his fucking mouth shut
    - Zakk used way too many pinch harmonics, he sucks
    - Dave was such a weirdo
    - Why was Miley Cyrus there?

I'd love to see some sort of Eddie tribute concert, but let's face it, if it's not a complete clusterfuck then it wouldn't be Van Halen.

I would imagine that if such an event were yo take place, the organizer would have strict contracts that were to prevent things of that nature. Sure itís a benefit but the lead singers would need a contractual muzzle. Thatís the only way I foresee anything going off without a hitch. Except for Wolf saying heíd kill them if they got out of line.

Yeah, but come on, it's a tribute to Ed, I'm sure they can suck it up for an event like this.
