And just think, Alex and Eddie never liked this tune. I listened to some interview from '97 a few months ago and they didn't speak highly of this tune. Ed said it didn't come out at all like he wanted it to.

Well, I LOVE the way it came out on VH2.

I always imagined he and Al probably wanted it to sound more like that version on the 79 live video. Its an awesome tune regardless, but it definitely rocks waaaaay harder on the live video.

As far as some unreleased stuff, I'd love official copies of these:

I think I like this version of the intro to Tora!Tora! better. So eerie. Only Ed came up with that kind of shit.

The EWS demo is rough around the edges of course, but "dis go this way/dis go that way/dis go in yo mouth" makes it all worth it LMAO.

Not sure why they would say that, it was their first real hit going to #15.
They also didn't like Big Bad Bill years later, but when they did it, Ed loved the idea.

They've said all kinds of things over the years that weren't really how they felt. It's how they roll.

Yeah, I believe Ed and Al said they preferred a heavier version of DTNA. They said that song didn't come out as they had hoped.

Kind of funny that the two songs I specifically have seen Al say he wasn't a big fan of are DTNA and Jamie's Crying, two songs with classic AVH intros.

And yes, both Ed and Al said they envisioned DTNA being heavier. I think Ted wanted a hit. I love both the album version and the more rocking live versions. Just an outstanding tune.

Isn’t Alex off in one of the transitions in record on DTNA?

Hmmmm, honestly never noticed him being "off". He does a lot of nice changes throughout the song with some Latin flair, even during the intro with the hi hat intentionally "off the beat" of the cowbell for a couple beats. I'd have to sit down and really listen and count everything to know for sure if he made an unintentional mistake. I will say that the great thing about the early albums, and another reason why they're my favorite, is the time and tempos were "fluid" and organic because so much of the recordings were Ed, Al, and Mike playing live in the studio and only doing I think Al has said no more than three takes for a song. They didn't "need no stinking click" to quote Reverend Al from BFM on Balance.

CVH was always a freight train teetering on the edge of going off the rails, loose but tight at the same time if that makes sense. Something that was sorely lacking on both the later albums and tours IMO.

Thought he was on record saying he was off on one of those old songs
