Judge Kenneth Case said there was no reason to delay Weinstein’s transfer any longer, denying his lawyer’s request to keep him at a state prison near Buffalo — where he is serving a 23-year sentence for a rape conviction — until the start of jury selection in the Los Angeles case.

Los Angeles authorities plan to collect Weinstein, 69, from the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, New York, at the end of June or in early July, prosecutors said at Tuesday’s extradition hearing in Buffalo, giving Weinstein’s lawyer time to appeal Judge Case’s decision.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Norman Effman, argued he should remain in Wende’s hospital-like maximum-security setting while receiving treatment for maladies including a loss of eyesight, rather than being shipped cross-country to a Los Angeles jail cell. His suggestion that Weinstein instead be arraigned by video was also rejected.

“What we were trying to do is not avoid the trial, but avoid an unnecessary stay in a jail rather than a prison,” Effman said, claiming pre-trial detention in California would rob Weinstein of needed medical care.

Erie County Assistant District Attorney Colleen Curtin Gable, arguing in favor of Weinstein’s extradition, retorted: “It’s Los Angeles. It’s not some remote outpost that doesn’t have any sort of medical care.”

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York appeals court upheld Harvey Weinstein’s rape conviction and 23-year prison sentence Thursday, rejecting the movie mogul’s claims that the judge at his landmark #MeToo trial prejudiced him by allowing women to testify about allegations that weren’t part of the criminal case.

The ruling by a five-judge panel in the state’s intermediate appeals court affirmed one of the highest-profile verdicts to date in America’s reckoning with sexual misconduct by powerful figures — an era that began with a flood of allegations against Weinstein.

Weinstein’s publicist, Juda Engelmayer, said he is reviewing his options and will seek to appeal the decision to the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals.

“Who would suspect that such an entertainment industry titan would be a degenerate rapist?” Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez said to jurors.

Yeah it's not strange at all to be invited to a guys hotel suite to "talk business".

How many red flags did these woman walk through and throw to the side to get to Harvey's room?

None of them deserved what happened, but it could have been easily avoided.

Honestly, I blame the agents, managers and publicists who set up the meetings. They HAD to know what was going on. But it's the attitude that you have to go along to get ahead. But for the most part, it wasn't these behind the scenes people paying the price, it was young vulnerable women who had ambition but no one to tell them that it was OK to say no.



In other news, the Danny Masterson trial has ended in a mistrial with a new trial scheduled for March

I'm not sure this will ever get to that point because the prosecution has to see that only 5 of the 12 jurors voted to convict on any one of the charges so they have an uphill battle, and the defense now knows the entire prosecution case and strategy. So unless something new comes to light, I don't think they have a chance to convict on retrial. These women are better off going the civil route if they want any kind of justice,

I think this is getting a bit ridiculous. Olivia Hussey and leonard Whiting who played Romeo and Juliet in the Franco Zeferelli film are now suing for something like 500 million bucks saying that one scene in the film that briefly showed nudity ( which they made when they were 15 and 16) has ruined their lives and constitutes child porn

They claim the scene caused them 55 years of humiliation, and damage to their careers.

Hussey defended the scene just 5 years ago upon the 50th anniversary of the film

Since Zeferelli has been dead for years, they are suing Paramount. 500 million? What?

We saw this film in 7th grade as a class trip with our English class, at a dinky little movie theatre down the street from my junior high (Remember when a town of less than a thousand people could have a movie theatre?)

The boys lost their minds and the teacher had to shush them. Mind you, this was a special showing of this film arranged by our English teacher. Today it would be a scandal and some parent would raise a fit
