I feel like ~1/3rd of one of the best known Rock bands on the planet is pretty darned good for a solo debut.
Exactly, we need to compare it to contemporary (2020s) type sales #s. Not really anything "Pre-Streaming", it is just a totally different era.

Would be interested in streams vs FF.

Amazing that the biggest rock band in the world releases an album and it sells 125,000 copies and it's considered a hit.

Def Leppard was doing that every week for about a year with Hysteria.

    The times have changed.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think in this thread a couple weeks ago it was said Taylor Swift had the top selling album of the year and she was only at something like 385,000. Platinum albums are a thing of the past, and pretty soon so will be Gold records.

When people complain about $175 nose bleed seats for fucking KISS, I remind them that you get all their music for free on YouTube and other channels.

Gene needs to make his money somehow.

    Lars was right.

    Lars was right.
Yep Lars was indeed, and it sucks for those of us who grew up with artists putting out full albums every year or two and loving the deep cut gems on those albums.

Mammoth WVH Scores Second Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With 'Don't Back Down'
    By Kevin Rutherford
    9/9/2021
The Wolfgang Van Halen-led band is the first act to send its first two songs to No. 1 on the chart since The Glorious Sons in 2019.
Mammoth WVH earns its second leader on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in as many tries, as the Wolfgang Van Halen-led act's "Don't Back Down" rises 2-1 on the chart dated Sept. 11.

The coronation follows the two-week reign in February and March of the group's "Distance," which was written in tribute to Van Halen's late father and rock legend Eddie Van Halen.

Mammoth WVH is the first act to notch No. 1s on Mainstream Rock Airplay in its first two appearances since The Glorious Sons, who doubled up with "S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)" (four weeks, beginning in January 2019) and "Panic Attack" (two, October 2019).

Mammoth WVH, Led by Wolfgang Van Halen, Rules Rock Charts: 'I Have Never Worked Harder on Anything'
Concurrently, "Down" ranks at No. 12 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 2.8 million audience impressions, according to MRC Data. It also places at No. 12 on the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs list, having reached No. 8 in August, with its radio audience joined by 173,000 U.S. streams in the tracking period.

"Down" and "Distance" are from Mammoth WVH's self-titled debut album. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums and Hard Rock Albums charts dated June 26 and has earned 68,000 equivalent album units to date.
