Need awhile to digest it all, but after the first 6 songs came out, I was hoping not to be disappointed that those might the strongest tracks. Not so!! Wow. Horribly Right and Stone are my favorites so far. Wolf never ceases to amaze me with his talent level. I'm not a big modern rock guy but I like this a lot.

So many radio friendly singles too. Mr. Ed, damn.

    Top 4

    1 Resolve
    2 Mammoth
    3 You’re to Blame
    4 Horribly Right

I like all the little direct homages to his influences... Royal Blood especially, also Fugazi, NIN, Def Leppard, Rush, The Strokes

He needs to work a little on his verse vocal melodies... but that will come as he develops...

    This record will be huge.

Default Mammoth WVH - Debut Album Release Thread!

    Finishing up the album now.

The greatest thing, Iím noticing? If I didnít know this was Eddie van Halenís son, Iíd have absolutely no clue.

He really is his own musician.

His lead work is excellent and the way he constructs rhythms is very good and unique. And his voice, is near pitch perfect. Almost too perfect, if I may say so. His voice sounds like it has the same filter in every song but I literally think itís because that just how his voice sounds and that every vocal melody is somewhat similar. Which is kind of nuts.

Itís a very complete sounding new-age rock album and Iím not sure how heís not going to be huge, after this.

Interested to hear what the follow-up album sounds like. Iíd like to see a bit more diversity, but thatís a bridge for another day.

    Standout tracks:

    Mr. Ed
    Resolve
    The Big Picture

-And Iím not sure why but the intro to Horribly Right sounds like something Edís played before. In one of his 04í solos? Donít ask me why I have that feeling, but Iíve heard that riff before-

I am thoroughly impressed. Wolf has the gene. Iíll admit that his name helped him get some of the press, but the music stands on its own. This would be a big rock record regardless. I really like Mr Ed, definitely a pop influenced song. EDIT: ok I think like 90% of the album.

It certainly has the most Eddie-like solo on any of the tracks on the album, IMO.

    Masterpiece, I donít know.

But this guyís lead playing is a textbook in finding your own voice on an instrument while maintaining the heartbeat and essence of what was passed down to you or what inspired you. Much like Ed was.

I have no doubt Wolf could play just like his Dad. But he doesnít want or need to.

For whatever reason, my CD isn't arriving from Amazon until Wednesday. But like many, I'm going to wait on the physical CD to listen to it and forgo the digital download for now.

Not a single one of you guys would be into this music if it wasn’t Ed’s son.

It’s bland, there’s no soul, no personality, there’s nothing unique about it whatsoever.

You’re To Blame is the only thing approaching a good song.

Listened on my way to work this morning and was very impressed. I'm very proud of what he has done (like he would even care what I think). He really has done a seemingly impossible thing and I think he's got a long career ahead of him. Man I feel old. It seems like yesterday that I was watching a very young Wolfgang wonder out on stage at Great Woods in Mansfield Mass during Eddie's solo on the 1993 tour. Crazy....

I really like this track as well. His tone and phrasing with his lead break here is sweet. Someone said earlier in this thread it was reminiscent of Slash, which I can hear. It sounds like it is going through a Wah.

The solo on Mr. Ed cements that he could play like...well, Mr. Ed, to me. But you're exactly right that he doesn't need to.

I gave them album another spin on my morning run. Every tracking growing on me more and more. Need to find that Japanese bonus track Talk & Walk!

    Fugazi... YES! Good call.

As for the vocal melodies... I was actually thinking in the car this morning while listening. "Hopefully on his next effort he employs members of the band at least to round out that sound with some lows ...lower harmonies?"

But yeah... that will all come with touring and development. Gotta just remember on this one that he did this all himself.

I'm not really into Wolfs stuff either. He does have talent but I'm a retro man sonically. Let he who is without sin throw the first stone lol.
