It seemed like a very deliberate choice. Joe was pressing Dave for answers on various subjects and not letting him get away with his rambling half-answers to questions but he did not bring up Eddie's passing at all which would have been obvious subject matter.

The main event in the VH universe, by far, is the passing of Ed. You cannot not talk about it. That would be like someone in the Rush galaxy not mentioning the passing of Neil Peart.

You do realize not everyone likes, or wants, to talk publicly for the whole world to see about the passing of people close to them. It has already been said that Dave has refused to talk about Ed out of respect for the Van Halen family. I would imagine a condition of appearing with Rogan was that any mention or trying to press Dave to talk about Ed was off limits. You wanna hear every little detail or secret then go listen to Sam.

That set didn’t exist a year ago.

    I feel
Like I needed to come back
    To this thread again

Dave not even mentioning Eddie further brings reality to the forefront- that Eddie is no more

David is very proud of Van Halen. You can see and hear it.

    this is likely
    My favorite interview with him.

I feel like I have a lot to say but really don’t know where to start

to quote Wolf- much love d-ro

I heard where Dave said Al was probably listening and talked about some great times with him.
It was also really nice to hear the praise he heaped on Mike.

I'm guessing he just didn't want to talk about Ed for whatever reason and made sure that was part of the condition he participated in the interview.
I thought the interview was pretty good from what I heard.
Sammy often said from the stage "what is understood, doesn't need to be discussed". Clearly Dave knows this and kudos to him.

Can't wait for the new DLR album!
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I only listened to snippets but its clear we probably won't hear anything from him about Eddie which is perfectly fine. People handle grief in various ways. Obviously this question was removed from the subjects.

My biggest take from about the 20 or 30 minutes is him and Al. Part of me wonders if both of them are sharing their grief together? Maybe has made them closer because I always go the impression that Alex and him were not very friendly to each other. More so than Eddie and him.

Anyway this was probably by far his best interview. He kind of toned down "Dave" Maybe he is on new meds or simply is getting older. Kind of funny to think that EWF was Eddie's first R&B conccert

    You can’t be serious.

Dave was on Joe’s podcast little under a year ago. So, you’re saying they recorded two three hour shows months apart but released one right away and another a year later, just because?

And yes, you can not talk about it.

Dave says before the show, “Joe, I’d rather not get into the death of Edward. So, don’t bring it up.”

I agree that it's nice to finally hear Mike get some much deserved credit. Time can often heal a lot of wounds with people and while I do not wish to bring back up negativity, I am happy to hear Dave mention the importance of Mike. He is a great bass player with some of the best backing vocals in rock music. Mike was a huge part of the VH sound.
