Default How to Play EVH Live Without a Net Guitar Solo

Doug Steele is at it again, breaking down our favorite Eddie Van Halen guitar parts!

Here Doug breaks down Eddieís Live Without a Net guitar solo. Doug is a great teacher, and has a Great sense of humor, and a hell of a player. I have gone though Part 6 and had a blast playing along with Doug here.

    Enjoy!

Until he breaks down CC Deville's solo from Live, Raw & Uncut, I got no interest.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

As usual, he doesnít care to go into note-for-note detail, but he does get the gist of a lot it across. And of course heís always funny!

I wouldn't call him a great teacher, but yea he's a fun guy to watch and he does a good enough job that you can learn on your own.

Weíve often spoken of how quickly he reaches a breaking point when it comes to note-for-note and how I have no such breaking point...and this always leads to a good laugh. I love the guy!

I should probably preface my "learn on your own" comment with, "As long as your as good as Doug is".

Not really! Itís all about what you direct your effort to. Doug is WAY more accomplished at playing his own shred style guitar and his original music than he is at breaking down Van Halen music. You actually DONíT have to be ďas good asĒ Doug in a general sense as a guitar player in order to learn how to play the ĎLive Without A Netí solo even more accurately than he can.

I know Iím nowhere near his league as a player in general and I know I never will be. Why do I say this? Because I donít actually like shred guitar music in general and, more to the point, Iíve never devoted any time to studying it and playing itÖbecause Iím not passionate about it. He IS passionate about shred and heís worked his balls off nearly his entire life to be a great shredder. And he has definitely succeeded at that! This is not a slam at all in case anyone is detecting that in my wordsÖIím a big admirer of those who have worked that hard at something they are passionate about. Doug is an awesome player and to the degree Iím able to detect from our many interactions over many years now, I think heís a really good person in general.

So again I have to say that you CAN play something better than another person regardless of the resume or fame level of that person compared to you. Thereís no question that you can specialize in and concentrate your study in a certain area that a famous player or a player that concentrates in a different area canít currently reach because they just arenít putting the effort in that you are in a certain area.

So trust me when I say, there is NOTHING stopping you from playing anything better than Doug, Yngwie, Eddie or the guy at your local music store who is by all other measures a better player than you. You can do it!

Yeah, maybe not a great teacher, but I like his teaching style. He keeps it fun, and I like the way he breaks down the parts of the Solo, and all of the EVH stuff he has on his channel. So many guitar teachers on YouTube are so fucking boring. LOL

    Doug Rocks!
