    Default OU812 33rd anniversary.....

It was yesterday, but I remember getting it on my 16th birthday (May 25th) along with Open up and say aah. I was VH obsessed (still am), and couldnt wait to get home and play it.
Call it what you like, thin produced, no bass sound and rushed, but it is what it is. They were still great memories and the album was great. However, I still rank it my least fave Sammy era album.
Today though Ive transported myself back to 1988, and watching some boots. Providence is killer.

Still the best Sam era album for my money. Rght now, it is the only Sam album that I dont skip any tracks, as I've even warmed back up to FSG after about 25 years of disliking and generally skipping it. Wish Mike could be heard but Ed and Al sound and play stellar. Best tones from both during the Sam years.

Sucker and AFU are top 5 Sam era tunes and MAM is the best keyboard tune of the era.

I love OU812, the overall sound was not as good as the other Sammy era albums but it has some killer songs on there.

The album from my year of birth. I wish the production/mix was better. And man this has some low points lyrically. But I think those deficits were necessary to point the band in a more modern direction for the 90s.

Theres a lot for redeeming content on the album musically. But this is definitely my least spun Hagar era album.

I can remember the day it was released...

I was in a small country town with an old GF (well we were both 16/17) and we walked into a record shop and that's when I saw it. I let out a little Ned Flanders type scream and had to make a decision. Do I buy lunch for me and the GF or do I buy the new Van Halen album???? (I only had money for one)...

Lets just say that by the time we got home, my GF was PISSED...... and hungry.

great album. I remember going to the record store at the mall the day it was released, I was so fired up. I love this record. a lot of it probably has to do with the age I was when it was released, I played that thing all the time when I was 15-16....literally all the time. lol. Mine all Mine is still my favorite VH song. I love that song.

This is the album that started me to look elsewhere for a favorite band (at the time). In retrospect, first VH album (for me) with more than one skip track on it.

Not VH at their best, not VH at their worst, just "eh". But their "eh" is another band's career highlight.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    The best 2nd era album

    Sucker In A 3 piece.
    AFU
    Cabo Wabo
    Black & Blue

If that album had bass it would destroy 5150

Great memories from this album. I'll jump on the bandwagon of people saying Sam was too lazy on some lyrics, but this album offered up some killer music and tunes.

    AFU--GOLD
    Cabo Wabo--GOLD

My least favorite is For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, even though I love the core four: Poundcake, Runaround, Right Now, and Top of the World. OU812 showcased Ed's diversity, and I dug that. Still, if Sammy had cleaned up the lyrics and Donn had turned up the bass, this bitch would have been the queen of the ball.
