Default 'Van Halen: The Eruption and the Aftershock' Now Available for Pre-order!

Wanted to share this here before the press release starts to go out:

VAN HALEN: THE ERUPTION AND THE AFTERSHOCK - available now for pre-order.

Come the late '70s, the rock music landscape was littered with the bloated carcasses of bands who partied too hard, burned out, or became complacent in success. The door was open for something fresh, wild, and enrapturing. Enter Van Halen. Made up of two Dutch-born brothers, one on drums and the other whose guitar was an extension of his very being, a bass player with a golden throat, and a frontman who made up for his lack of singing ability with attitude and gravity-defying acrobatics onstage, they were unlike anything ever seen before.

Alex and Edward Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and David Lee Roth put a cap on one decade and exploded into the next with a brand of music not quite punk, not quite metal, and not at all subtle. They went from headlining backyard keggers to top billing at the US Festival in front of three hundred thousand people within five years. Then, right when it looked like there wasn't an obstacle created to slow the Mighty Van Halen ascent, the group imploded from the inside out, only to rebound stronger than ever with ex-Montrose howler Sammy Hagar leading them to four consecutive number one albums.

Van Halen: The Eruption and the Aftershock tells the story of how one of America's greatest bands weathered arguably the most dramatic soap opera in rock and roll history with songs that would weave themselves into the fabric of every musician who heard them, alongside an incendiary and unrivaled live show. Featuring exclusive interviews with insiders, fans, and artists who were there to witness the rise, the tumult, and the making of legends, it's a story that has to be read to be believed.

    Thumbs up

Congratulations on the book! I like the fact that you have Sammy, Gary & Wolfie on the cover. Not many VH books have that.
Right Now you're reading my post!

    " Frontman's lack of singing ability" ???

Every time I see or hear these type of ignorant false statement's about David's vocals I always shake my head.

David's vocals on the albums are amazing. Listen to On Fire. The wailing screams are out of the stratosphere.

Listen to Little Dreamer or Woman In Love. Kinda mellow beatiful laid back sonic vibe.

DLR is an amazing iconic rock vocalist on par with Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, etc, etc...

The whole " David could never sing", or whatever critics like Eddie Trunk say is complete utter bullst. It could only possibly pertain to live concert performances. But VH never had a live album with David. So these type of false statements are void of substance based upon live bootlegs. Most likely the US Festival.

    This.

Funny, no one could hear “acrobatics” on the six pack.

Cool on the book. Can't imagine writing one.

Just make sure you get the story straight on how Eddie started on drums and Alex on guitar :-)

The funny thing about the whole "Dave could never sing" is that its really all due to Eddie. Think about summer of 1986 and how often you read in interviews of how Eddie was displeased with Dave because he couldn't sing. Repeat it enough times and its the truth. Similar to Diver Down and why so many people don't like it. Eddie stated that he hated it because it was half covers.

Hey count me in the group that had a belief because I worshipped Eddie. I am guilty. Anyway I truly think if they never broke up, you likely wouldn't be hearing the Dave could never sing comment. Today? Different story

I wouldn't call them "ignorant false statements" unless you consider Ted Templeman an unaware liar. He and Donn Landee had to do take after take and punch ins to coax the performances out of Dave on those very songs you mention - that's just a fact. And it doesn't say "Dave can't sing," but he's certainly not the best singer in a traditional sense. What he IS though is one badass frontman whose attitude played a major role in why he was such a great vocalist for Van Halen.

As a VH fan, I too get a little tired that the first item VH fans say about DLR is "he can't sing".

Congrats on the book, but I do wish that wasn't right up front.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!
