Didn't mind going to Ozzfest. Saw a bunch of those. But I never was there at 10am or whenever the first bands started. We always went up and did a little 'pre-game' at the hotel and then walked over to the venue late afternoon. That's the extent of my music festival experience. lol

    I've been to two.

One was miserable (Monsters of Rock in '88), the other was tolerable because they did a great job of turning around the stages quicker, and it wasn't 105 fucking degrees out.

As you get older festivals get less attractive I watched a documentary on why Woodstock 2 blew up and that honestly looked like the worst thing ever. Plus Limp Bizkit played

Was that the one in 1995? I was at Woodstock '99. Wasn't too bad overall. We had a decent RV to crash in for the weekend, and we left before the fires on Sunday.

But the crowds at the show(s) on Saturday night, especially during Metallica. Throwing bottles. Fuck that. I was 28 at the time and felt old. Saw lots of titties, so that was a bonus.

One year I went to an Ozzfest with a Weird Al shirt on intentionally.

My friends insisted I was going to get beat up.

    I laughed.

During Lamb of God's set, a dude pointed at me (beefcake city) and said. "You! With the Weird Al shirt"

I quietly nodded thinking, why didn't I listen to my friends, as this gigantor of a metal fan stepped out of the pit.

He gets real close and says, "You're all right man. I love Weird Al; he makes fun of all the shut I hate"

I timidly said thanks and he was on his way, not wanting to tell him, Metallica, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Warrant, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. have all gone thru some kind of Weird Al treatment.

Unfortunately, it seems that VH's singer selection criteria was not that far off from this.

I've been a festival fan for most of my adult life..Almost exclusively of the Jam Band genre....They're actually a great time and usually a great bang for the buck. Some are far better organized and enjoyable than others and it would seem since this particular one is not new, I'd bet it's very well run and organized which makes for a far more enjoyable festival experience.

With a little pre-planning, packing the right clothes, food, party favors, etc. and most importantly going with friends you really enjoy being with, festivals can be some of the greatest musical experiences of your life.

One very important thing no matter what your age is to pace yourself and don't get hung up on seeing every band just because they're on the bill....I also tend to drink far, far less alcohol at festivals and instead lean heavily on the herb. Although at my age now (almost 52), I've cut way back on that too.

Went to a Vans show one year because my wife’s cousin was playing in it. Didn’t care for most of the bands.

That was the only time I’ve been to a “festival” type of show.
