New Sammy interview with KLOS

He already said this, but he expresses himself in a different way here, and maybe the end is different:

Prior to the guitarist's October 2020 passing, Sammy said that the two were fortunately able to reconnect thanks to the great comedian George Lopez.

"It was just so awesome," Hagar recalled (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUT.NET). "'Cause I had reached out to Eddie on his birthday for a couple of years. New Year's Day I would reach out to Eddie and Al [VAN HALEN drummer Alex Van Halen] both, and I'd say, 'Hey, Happy New Year, guys. I hope you're happy, and I hope this year's good for you.' I was really trying to be friends. I wasn't looking to join the band. I wasn't trying to put all that back together. Everyone probably took it that way. 'Oh, yeah, he just wants to get back in the band.' I did not wanna get back in the band. As much as I love that band… If you said to me today, ['You can play] one last show with Eddie, Alex and Michael [Anthony],' one last show, [I would say], 'Absolutely.' That ain't gonna happen. But at the time, I wasn't looking to join the band. I like what I'm doing; I'm happy.

"I think it was about two years in a row I did that," Sammy continued. "And then once finally Eddie reached out and said "Thanks, man' back on my Instagram. 'Hey, thanks. Doing great,' or whatever. 'And a Happy New Year to you.' And I went, 'Oh. That was cool.' But then I reached out to Alex. I heard [Eddie] was sick, and I knew he was sick. But I started hearing bad things. So I reached out to Alex. He did not get back [to me]. I reached out to Matt, his right-hand man. No. I reached out even to [VAN HALEN's manager] Irving Azoff, and [he said], 'Give Al a call.' So I said, 'I don't wanna bug Eddie. I don't wanna call Eddie and have him tell me, 'Fuck you, you asshole.'' I'd go, 'Oh, no. Not this again.' So I wanted to talk with someone else first and see how he was doing and if he would be cool with me calling. Nobody's calling me. Nobody's calling me back. Nobody's responded to my e-mails, no response to my texts. So, George Lopez calls me, and he's a dear friend too. And he goes, 'Sam, you've gotta call Eddie,' and blah blah blah. I said, 'I tried to reach him.' [He says], 'Here's his number. I just talked to him. He loves you, man. He loves you.' And I said, 'Wow. Okay.' I call him, and he's going, 'What took you so long?' I'm going, 'Well, I called Al. I called this guy. I called that [guy].' And he goes, 'Well, you didn't call me.' And I said, 'Well, I'm calling you now.' And we just burst out laughing. And we just had a real nice relationship for probably four or five months, and then, all of a sudden, he wasn't returning the texts and he wasn't returning my calls and I wasn't getting no response for about a month. It was heartbreaking, 'cause I knew. And then one time I said, 'Hey, dude. What the fuck? You didn't give me no love.' And he goes, 'Man, I've been in the hospital.' And I'm, like, 'Oh, fuck.' And then that was the last I heard [from] him."

The older I get I just want Sam to shut up. He's annoying to me now.

He just talks and talks the same shit over and over. I really appreciate the way Dave is handling the loss of Ed.

Yep. I guess I just don't understand d Sam's need to broadcast all the little details of reconciling with Ed, who was obviously very private with that sort of thing.

Of course Sam's fans will think it's wonderful he's doing all these "great" interviews.

Sam has always been a douche bag. Both Dave and Gary handled Ed's passing much, much classier than Sammy.

He never should have made that final text message exchange with Ed public, it made me think way less of him.

Great vocalist and musician but needs to work on controlling his ego and what he says just a tad.

People gave DLR shit for the VMA awards but that's nothing compared to the shit Sammy just said with his final text message exchange with Ed.

Some things in life should be kept private and personal and that should have been kept private. I wish I never read that shit.

I honestly dont think he means any harm. I watched the video. Looked like he got emotional talking about the last time he spoke with Ed.

But yeah, the constant "Yeah well I tried to call Al...then I called Irving...then I called Claudio...then I called Bingenheimer....then I called Mark Stone.....nobody returned my calls....." just makes him come off as...I dunno how to put it.....it just rubs me the wrong way reading that for the 18th time.

I have zero doubt in my mind that Sammy loved and loves Ed. Like a Brother. And Sam is a completely different guy than Dave, so I won't directly compare em'. I'd love to hear Dave say something about Ed's passing considering it's been over 6 months, although I understand why he possibly hasn't. He released the Wizard of Oz song and that was nice, but I still want to see him talk briefly about it. But that's just me being selfish. I appreciate Dave's silence and the fact he values his privacy.

But I also realize that Sam isn't that guy. You ask him a question, he's going to answer it. No matter how.... many.... times.....he's answered it. And to an extent, that's a cool thing about him.

But somebody close to Sam just needs to say, "Sam...enough. We know they never called you back in 2019 and after those B-Day messages. We know you were bitter about what happened in 96'. I know you dont mean any ill will by it but it makes you come off as self-absorbed. Nobody gives a fuck if the dead guy and his Brother didn't return your phone calls for a year. Cherish his legacy by not bringing that pointless, irrelevant shit up anymore....Please. Just talk about how you came up with Dreams..."

Sam being Sam. If he is asked he will answer it from every news outlet. Only thing Sam could do is is say next question which we all know he won’t do, especially since his last project was squashed due to the pandemic. Everyone has their news feeds so I guess in some small corner this is new news. Can’t fault Sam, as an entertainer, for wanting his name in the press.

I don’t hate Sam and I’m definitely a graver. But I can’t help but laugh a little at his calls and texts going unanswered.

Dave and Al have remained quiet and grieving in their own ways I suppose. Just adds to the legend and admiration of CVH. They were, and are, a brotherhood.

I still can’t believe it. And it still hurts. A lot.
