[QUOTE=garbeaj;2441676]Right, but the original poster sounds like he likes his guitar and he doesnít want to screw it up.

. It doesnít cost anything to TALK to a qualified guitar technician.

    Maybe it should

I am certainly a DIY guy who was heavily inspired by EVH's diy attitude. I've done everything but carve the body/neck or do a refret. I think EVH has to be the most DIY guitar guy there is... well, maybe that's why EVH liked Brian May so much.

Anyway, it's just wire and wood guys. I don't collect them, I play them. That being said I'm going to give it a go, and I'd like to think that Edward would give me a thumbs up for that.
My only advice—if you want to call it that—is to use an x-acto point awl or similar push punch to find your EXACT center before drilling. It’s an obvious step but at least it’ll keep your small bit from walking—especially if you have a wobble. You can do it… I want to see those glow in the dark frets! Ha-Ha!

But I think people are completely misunderstanding me here. Iím simply making the point that taking your a guitar to an experienced guitar technician is an option and should probably be considered first. But I have no problem with someone learning how to do all manner of work on their own guitars. It just strikes me as unusual that the DIY method is almost always the only method mentioned when someone is seeking advice.

I think the DIY method was heavily recommended here because this problem can most likely be remedied with a DIY solution. If OP wants new side markers installed, yeah, get a quote from a tech. But if he doesn't want to spend at least 1/3 of the list value of the guitar on a mod he can pursue any of the DIY options recommended.

There's a video from '04 where Eddie solves this exact problem - demonstrates that he used sharpie to improve visibility of the side markers. Granted, he wasn't in the best mental state at the time, but it's a 1:1 solution on the issue.

If I can build my own deck and finish my own basement, I don't need some help with a truss rod.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Just an update: I tried putting a small amount of the gun sight lume over the dots and then cover it with clear nail polish. Didnt work well as you need more particles to charge up with UV. My baked neck is crazy dark. I have had people ask me if I stained it that way. Nope. Someone at EVH forgot the ez bake oven timer.

Next, I took the side fret markers out clean. It was embarrassingly simple with a heated drill bit -- the stuff just comes out clean. Now I am totally filling the tiny void with the gun sight lume. Looks promising so far.

Next step is purchasing the Luminlay rod fo r$24 (not sure if 2mm or 2.5mm , which honestly is alot simpler than the other little "sort of" things I am doing to date. Bonus: I'm also refinishing my old Mexi strat, where I took the poly off with a heat gun -- which was the way to go.

Anyone have the dot/rod size of the EVH wolfgang standard quilt side markers? I was just going to order the 2mm if I don't get any other info.
