The sound of VH was gonna change regardless of Sam or if Dave never had quit. It was the era that was going to dictate the sound and we see when Dave went solo, just how much he embraced that pop synth sound.

    This.

Skyscraper is fucking drowning in synths on some songs.

The dead giveaway that was impossible (besides the fact that Van Halen absolutely demolishes KISS musically) is that Gene Simmons is probably a good foot taller than Michael Anthony. And, that is without the high heel boots.

He didn't sound good during the verses as they were virtually a cappella. Maybe with a little more of the band in the mix it would have sounded better, but he really needs to just stop reaching for Al Jolsen and stick to his wheelhouse. He sounds so damned good in a lower, bluesy register. Cant understand why he doesn't stay there. He was doing it in 2015 on DTNA and a few other songs and it just doesn't sound that good.

Sounded fine. It was nothing like what he was doing on DTNA the last two tours. Wouldve liked to have heard more. I'm assuming this is just part of a longer tune that will be on his album with John 5 and Greg Bissonette?

That Lo-Rez song has a Beach Boys feel to it. At least to me.

I wish he'd give up his head voice register as well.

Dave should release his record right now. There's a void of records being released, emotions are still raw from Ed's passing, people do talk about VH and the legacy - the timing is good. Some people are still working from home.
It would make no sense to wait until 2022.

Yeah he already 'released' this much of the song on his Roth Project with Giddy Up, Somewhere Over Rainbow B&G, Alligator Pants and Manda Bala. They're all on the album.

And he does the staccato, over-enunciated verses on all of them so far, tho Manda Bala is a little softer voiced
