I don't always dig Dave's cartoons, but this one definitely has some interesting VH content:

    Mack Robinson.

2nd to Jessie Owens in the 36 Olympics, also had Jackie Robinson as a brother.

    Man.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think it's obvious that Ed's death has crushed him. His mentioning of how hard Ed and Al had it shows the love and respect he has for them.

Finally something I can understand from Dave.

His grief is real. There's talking about grief then there's the kind of grief you can only put to music or art such as these drawings.

I'm sure it hits him like punch to the gut that he's never going to make music with the brothers ever again on this planet.

    This.

I remember reading somewhere that DLR was devastated, like not leaving the house for weeks kind of grief, people who know him concerned for him and forcing him to get on with life type of grief.

I know DLR and Ed weren't "friends" in the traditional sense, but I think there was love and respect there, and then tying into it that Van Halen as a band is done as well, something that has identified his entire adult life, whether in VH or out, that's a helluva of combo to deal with. On top of that, he lives alone, so no one around to take his mind off of it, just him alone in a big mansion brooding.

The artwork is probably a good outlet for him.

Absolutely. Doesn't matter if we understand it or not, it's good for him.

Where did you read this? I've read zero about Dave's reaction to Ed's passing. Would be great if you could find the link.

Dave is definitely putting some heart into his work. He's looking back upon his years and have no doubt at all that he is missing Ed...

    Question

So Dave was friends with Mack Robinson? I never heard anything about him before. It's pretty awesome he was 2nd place behind Jessie Owens & he is Jackie Robinson's brother.

I could see the ultimate 2021 interview. Mike and Dave co-interview, filmed, reminiscing. It would probably be a first in VH history, since Dave used to do interviews with Al, but never with Mike.

    Greg Renoff could moderate it.
