They said they were a new band and that's what they sold us... new!

Yep. Regardless of fans opinions... they were moving forward in their career of rock and roll. They only brought a little bit of baggage with them.

I get it was their name and their choice and only one member was changing and there is a certain amount of money built into the VH name, but it certainly would've reduced the amount of heartache down the line, both for members and fans alike.

It's not really apples to apples, but there is a world where Audioslave and RATM could coexist, and there was some tentative talk about an Audioslave reunion before Cornell took his life.

Then again, might have cost them a lot of money, too, and that was worth the heartache for them.

Interesting comparison. Fans gained and lost for a band just trying to move on. Two opposite kinda spectrum lead men also.

Another similar comparison would be Creed and Alter Bridge. Scott Stapp was the lead singer of Creed, which had great success with the Human Clay Album. Mark Tremonti and the rest of the Creed bandmates (bass player and drummer) teamed up with Miles Kennedy to form Alterbridge under a new name.

One difference between these examples and VH at that time is AIC & Journey are nostalgia acts. There is a place for those, obviously. And if youíre joining a band that is a nostalgia act, itís kind of hard to not sing the bandís previous output live. But VH with Hagar was not that, at that time. They didnít become a real nostalgia act until 2004.

Guess it’s just semantics, but did Stapp quite Creed? Or did the other 3 guys quit/leave?

Stapp got a big head if I recall. Thought he was the band kinda shit. Lost his religion.... turned into a nobody pretty fucking quick.

Whatever happened to Live? High School best bud band mates and all. It's been years, but Creed reminded me of them. A few great albums back in the day.
