DD, where do you stand on Dave vs Sam in Van Halen?

    Lol, I think everyone knows.

He was a 60+ year old man when he decided to air dirty laundry. Sam knew better, he did it anyway.

And any regret of apology that has a "but" in it isn't really a regret or apology.

This is very important to remember when apologizing to a woman. Just say "I'm sorry" and stop talking. As soon as you start trying to explain why you did something she didn't like, you're toast.

Sam had plenty of time to find Ed's number and apologize. He didn't.
It's a bit late in the day now with Ed gone to cry mea culpa.
He knew what he was doing when he wrote the book.
Dave certainly took a higher road with his book I think.

Maybe. Probably. But then again, you said, "I'm convinced all rock stars have delayed emotional maturity. There has to be a reason why they continue to act like high school girls even into their 70's."

I remember about 6 years or so ago I was listening to a podcast interview with Norman Lear. He was 92 at the time and he was talking about regrets and lessons he learned. He was asked when those occurred, and he said when he was early to mid-80s. It was kind of a beautiful thing to think about this accomplished guy still learning lessons about actions and regrets 80+ years on this planet.

Point being, whatever the reason, it seems as if someone is criticized for their actions, and eventually they realize they were wrong, that's growth and that's a good thing.

The book means little to nothing now. I'm happy that Ed and Sam talked before his passing. Sam should be focusing more on that.

Kind of the same in 1996 with Sam.

If they could have all gotten in the same room (sober) and talked it out, its most likely that they didn't break up.
Dave DID quit, as per Dave himself. He literally said they talked about it, hugged and parted ways.

I didn't think there was any doubt about that.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

I kind of want to listen to this podcast just to see how this came about. I don't have a problem with Sammy answering questions that people ask him, even if those turn into clickbait articles.

If you read what Pete Angelus, Noel Monk and others there have said in interviews and written about it, DLR did not quit. They had agreed to take a one year hiatus, then it was a quick escalation of miscommunications and fuck you and fuck you too's until it was over.

In retrospect I wish I hadn't brought it up. I personally don't take anything Ed, Al or DLR said without a heavy dose of salt. I really don't take what Noel Monk has to say much better to be honest, but I do believe Pete Angelus.

What are you talking about? Noel Monk was fired before Dave quit the band, so there's no way he knew about why Dave quit. Dave was there with the rest of the band when they fired Noel's ass. All four of them were present during that meeting.

This. Far worse has been written by others in rock and roll autobiographies.

The idea that it was some sort of brutal betrayal writing about the shitshow that was Ed and the 2004 Tour is ridiculous.
