FINALLY striped my USA Wolfgang Stealth!

Inspired by this photo (which is the only photo I’ve ever seen of this guitar):



It’s not a perfect replica, but I love how it turned out! Here she is:

I have wanted to this to my Stealth ever since I saw that photo of Ed’s striped Stealth. I’m not exactly sure how his was striped, probably clear coat sprayed?

I used green compound (the stuff you use on a leather strop for knife sharpening) to start, then finished with Maguiar’s Ultimate Compound. Oh yeah, and LOTS of elbow grease. And beer. Lots of beer. Lol.

Whole thing took me about eight hours. It surprised me how long it took the matte finish to shine up. Totally worth it, though. I love it!

Thanks! Yes indeed - reverse masked each stripe and then rubbed away!

Edit: You can see all the overlap that happens at the intersection of the lines doing it this way, but I kind of dig the “transparent” look it gives the stripes.

One thing I found is that using paper towel to apply the Maguiars Ultimate Compound, and then a clean dry paper towel to buff it off worked really good. You can start hearing a nice squeak as the matte finish starts to get good and polished with the paper towel. I would just keep rubbing until the squeaking got obnoxious, then I’d apply more and do it again until it was obvious that the finish wasn’t going to get any shinier.

So I did one stripe so far and yeah it looks like it works. Just have to rub a lot with the Meguiars. Looks cool already even with just one stripe!

Use a nice soft micro fiber rag to get the tape lines off. That’s what I did

So I’m done. I just wanted to do the front. Came out pretty cool. Hard to get a really good shot of it because of the light in my living room but you get an idea here.
