Default Some advice on 5150 50 w heads...

Currently i have a 50w combo (6L6) prior to the clean channel fix...

I like the amp a lot and bough it mainly for the Power level (attenuator) feature, so i can get heavy sounds at relatively lower volumes..

So... i'm thinking of getting the 6l6 50w head. What is the difference between the standard 6L6 and the Stealth?

Also, which is the best 2 x 12 cabinet to use with either head?

    Thanks

I have a 6L6 50w head, previously owned the 100w head, and have played the other varieties. The Stealth blue channel has more gain and is closer in tone/character to the red channel. I personally prefer the standard 6L6 because I'd rather have the two channels differ a bit to provide a wider variety of tones.

I used both my 50w and my 100w with a Marshall style Avatar 2x12 cab with Eminence Legend GB12 (50w Greenbacks). Loved the tone, hated lugging it gigs. I don't play any gigs without a PA, so I downsized to the EVH 1x12 and am happy enough. I should probably do a speaker swap from the G12H30 to something more similar to the Greenbacks, but it's not a big enough deal for me.

If you like the tone of your amp I'd get that concentric mod done at an authorized Fender service center. Then your amp would have all the 5150iii bells and whistles: concentric controls, power scaling and reverb.

Hey man, thanks. Yes i do like my amps sound alot.. .and i have the Fender service center nearby...

I guess i was under the impression that there would be a considerable sonic improvement...

But, maybe i can save myself alot $ and stick with what i have.

I got the mod done at the fender service center here on long island and I can say it is worth every penny.
