Tim Tebow signs with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end.

    1 year deal.

Under any other circumstance I don't think he makes the team, but there is no way Urban Meyer is signing him to a contract just so he can cut him in August.

Edit: this kind of signing makes me think of Steve Spurrier and how he gave spots to former college players of his that he liked that unfortunately probably didn't deserve it. The NFL roster is only 53 guys, not 120, no room for sentiment.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

was reading an article recently and it mentioned Tebow last playing in 2012. Really?!? And I looked it up, that was with the Jets - the Tebow-mania I recall was with the Broncos, so we're now talking 10 years ago! Where did that time go?

    From the MLB thread... Me
Off topic here but the Ravens DC said a week ago in a presser sacks in football today are overrated.

    DavesDreidel
It didn't come off well, but I think he was trying to take pressure off a couple of players the press was asking him about who are edge rushers and haven't put up many sacks over the past two seasons.

In retrospect, I think he was simply making a effort to get the press off of some of his guys.

Yes he was because one of the two first round picks they got was a defensive end/lb and had no sacks his senior year at Penn St....They took a project in round one...maybe

I find it hard to believe that Meyer would sign his friend just to cut him.

    Tebow is making the roster.

Nice thing about him at tight end is that he can save a roster spot for the 3rd string QB, so in a way he's a free player.

Well a sack is a negative yardage play so I think the more you have of those as a defense, the better. Plus if you are trying to get a sack, you are also trying to apply pressure on the QB which is also likely to create a negative play. Most QB's don't like it with a 280lb guy a foot away from them.

Regarding Tebow, I don't see the big deal with his signing. You have a a career college guy acting as GM and Coach. You need some guys in your corner on the roster. Every new coach tries to sign a guy or two like that. He is an athletic guy, who is in shape since he has been playing minor league ball. Its not like he has been on the couch for 5 years. There are several hundred players in the NFL right now that won't make it out of training camp. You also have guys on rosters who come from other sports. Rugby for instance. Others may have been on track teams. Others may have only kicked soccer balls. Doesn't mean they will make it out of training camp

I do think he is giving Tim a break and maybe will use him as a coach at some point.
