Default VH 1 secretly remixed by Donn Landee! Asst. engineer Peggy Mccreary Interview

Donít believe it for a second. And if it was anything he probably made very minor changes to boost loudness or something. I seriously doubt he completely remixed the album. Donít believe it for one second. I just donít believe he would fuck around with the bandís first album without letting Ted know.

Iím sure Donn was given far more leeway after the first album when both he and Ted were very familiar with their music and their sound. And we know by FW that Donn and Ed were doing stuff on their own so that I would believe.

Is this Dave's finest vocal performance? I think so ...

Ted and Donn were one unit. They had worked together for a long, long time before Van Halen, and you can hear their signature sound on everything, even the beefheart album they did sounds like they did it. There is no remixed by Donn there was just mixed by Donn in the first place because it was his job. I think itís a little disrespectful to their great body of work and the signature production sound that is so clearly on all the records they did, itís an amazing team accomplishment and might be the best stuff WB ever put their name on.

I still donít think Donn would have made any massive changes to the final mix unless he told Ted he was going to do it. I get that they were very close and I understand that completely I still donít think he wouldíve made changes without telling him. This was the first album for this band, Iím sure they wanted to make sure they were on the same page with it.

I think this is just a bunch of nothing. That's just the original engineer perfecting the original mix. That's not a remix, which would be either by a different artist or post-release.

What Ted wrote in his book is there was zero tension on any of the first 5 CVH records. The only one where there was friction is 1984, after Ed built 5150 and started recording there.

Default VH 1 secretly remixed by Donn Landee! Asst. engineer Peggy Mccreary Interview

I donít know if this has been posted but I was looking at our Twitter this morning and either James or DD was talking with Greg Renoff in DMís and he said this is absolutely NOT true. And he basically said it for the reasons that I posted that Donn wouldnít even make changes like that without telling Ted first. So I think we can take the word of Ted Templemanís autobiographical author that this never happened.

    Oh Peggy,

Peggy, Peggy, Peggy. ( * Knocking on door *)

I just checked I see her name on the album. Along with Kent Neberball.

Wtf are these people? Kent Nebergall & Penny Mc Crearly.

All these years. 40 years. Never even thought about the second engineerers.

Maybe next week they'll have Beth Naranjo on the show. She was the Production Coordinater. Im guessing in chare of coordinating production. Sounds kinda important.

She seems fried so I’m gong to take her recollection with a grain of salt. Interesting to hear though.

Well Gregg kind of said this is kind of true because Donn and Ted would do individual mixes. Compare them, etc. However no way would Ted not know about it because Donn would have to submit an invoice for approval so Ted knew this was happening.

I think Donn simply was tooting his own horn to make it sound like he was going against the man

If Donn is to remix anything then he should start with adding Mike's bass to 5150 and more importantly OU812. Donn sounds like a brilliant guy and those early VH albums are untouchable. I just don't know how the bass got so overlooked on those two albums.

You weren't riveted by Peggy's tales of being ogled by strange men as she walked the streets of Hollywood in the same little shorts she wore growing up in the podunk town of Blythe, CA?
