Great interview. It's truly a damn shame that the 2004 Tour was the send off for that era of that band. It's not right. Those songs deserved to be played properly with Ed at his 2015 playing level. That would have been just spectacular.

I'm wondering if I wouldn't have preferred another proper VH record instead of another tour. EVH only made one complete album during the 1999-2020 time period. That's the thing that saddens me more, I wish we would've had a few more albums. That's if we had a magic wand to change things. Music and tours we had were already great.

Right, in terms of time devoted to promotion etc. RHRN took as much effort as an album of new material would have. There is even some indication that there was so much rerecording involved with RHRN that it almost required as much studio time as a new album.

But live albums are traditionally a way to fulfill a contract and pretty sure that was the case here. Might tensions in the band already have been at the point where Sammy and EVH were not super interested in getting together to write? Seems pretty likely.

If you think about it, that tour ended in August of 93 and Balance tour kicked off in March 95. So in the span of 18 months, they went from buddies to hated enemies. The whole collapse was so strange.
