I at a bare minimum "like" everything that VH has ever put out. Dave, Sam, Wolf, no matter. But VHIII is a sonic crime, I am not exaggerating that for me it is cringe inducing, I think it sounds that bad.

Glad others like it, and damn, I tried, I think I've bought it three times, but there is something about it that is a verbal assault, can't explain it.

But like many that hated the album, really liked the tour, though, I knew during my concert it was the end of VH as we know it. Never thought I would ever be at a VH concert and hear the lead vocalist "hey, move on up and fill in the empty seats!"
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

For me, VH III just doesn't sound like Van Halen. Truth be told, the first couple of Extreme albums absolutely destroy it.

I'd rather listen to the first three Extreme albums every day and twice on Sunday, so it isn't Gary's voice.

I think Ed was down the addiction rabbit hole already by this point, he was just still adept at hiding it, combine that with a new songwriting partner that wasn't going to say "no", and a guy best known for "bum bum" as your producer, and you get what we got.

Still amazes that no one, at any point said "guys, we can do better than this. What we have here is not up to our standards."

I just had this conversation with my wife about an hour ago when I told her about the latest "Van Halen III isn't that bad thread". The Eddie Van Halen sycophants who refuse to give Dave and Sammy the credit they deserve fail to realize that genius unchecked sometimes isn't all that intelligent.

Dude, you're actually able to discuss VHLinks threads with your wife?!?! Damn, that's a keeper!
But do you, in turn, also have to hear her discuss some of her online hang outs?

I don't think they could've done better with this direction. VHIII is awkward because it's. compromise between a full-on EVH solo album and a VH record. It tries to be both but ends up sounding like neither. An EVH solo record would've likely been even more experimental than VHIII, with some cello, tuba, Eddie singing, etc, etc.
A VH record should have shorter songs and be more to the point and never have EVH on lead vocals.
VHIII falls in the uncomfortable middle, except for maybe One I Want - that to me is still a VH song. A good producer would've helped them find their way.

I wonder if Ed played the strings and horns on HMSI during the "solo" section? I would imagine.

And was that the cello he was playing on UFB?

    Anyone know?

She’s known about my Van Halen fanaticism from the time we first met in the summer of 1985. She was with me the day 5150 was released in March 1986 when I bought it on cassette on our way to Huntington Beach. She was wearing a black and yellow one piece bathing suit reminiscent of Eddie’s bumblebee guitar from the Van Halen II era. It was destiny.

As far as hearing her discuss her online hang outs, she doesn’t have any. She does, however have an affinity for shoes in the vein of Imelda Marcos. Women be shoppin’ ...

Off topic- please forgive me, but I couldn't help noticing the username handle....

It's just so like totally awesome.

I've always loved when rock & roll people change the spelling of words like in this instance, " Rocks" to " Rox" .

It's just so sassy & rebellious. Against the grain middle finger statement.

Society want's us to be proper & dignified using proper spelling dictated by the Webster's Dictionary & School's with their super strict uptight rules how things should be.

But when I see cool cats such as yourself purposley changing the spelling it strikes me as being such a badass statement of pure adrenilized youthful exhuberance & independant attitude & exhibits the freedom of youth who won't be contained by the rules & do it their way.

It's just so freakin cool. Or wait...I should've typed kewl. Haha.

There- I did it too. Oh- That's fun.

Plus, It's smart because it saves typing more letters. Rox only 3 letters, as opposed to Rock's which is 5 letters plus an apostophe. Brilliant & streetsmart. The new generation. Fuck old school.

Nm- I just for the life of me will never understand these VH3 thread topics. I just dont get it.

VH fans- Or I guess I should refer to as EVH fans...open minded pointing out the brilliance of VH3...this underappreciated gem from a musical genius. Pointing out how great the artistic creative eclectic abstract brilliance was & should be appreciated as such.

^ It sounds like you're saying you don't understand why anyone would ever talk about this era of Van Halen, because you don't like it. I'm not much of a fan of it and I'm even less of a fan than I was when it came out (I really liked "Without You" when it first came out), but we're on a Van Halen forum and someone posted an interview about this era.
