    Default Ed's influences

Like a lot of us since Ed's death I've been diving deep into the VH catalog, bootlegs, recordings, interviews etc. I've found myself wanting to compile a list of his most integral influences across his life. There's always the obvious ones but I'm trying to really dive deep and check all these out and get into Eddie's influential headspace.

Whatever anyone can think of, song, full record etc. Post here so I can check it out. There's some I'm aware of but never really gone into such as Holdsworth and what not. But I'd love to get kind of a definitive list going even going back to pre Mammoth and VH days.

While I am not sure specifically listed, I would say on keyboards Tony Banks of Genesis. Yeah I know who cares about keys but remember Hear About it Later was written on keys

There’s only one guy people need to look to for Ed’s feel and groove.

And his name is Eric Clapton.

Immediately after I.O.U.'s release, guitarist Eddie Van Halen brought Holdsworth to the attention of Warner Bros. Records executive Mo Ostin.

Van Halen had previously enthused about Holdsworth in a 1980 issue of Guitar Player magazine, saying

"That guy is bad! He's fantastic; I love him", and that Holdsworth was "the best, in my book".

Furthermore, in a 1981 interview for Guitar World magazine, he said that

"To me Allan Holdsworth is number one".
Beauty is life when life unveils
    her holy face.

But you are life and you
    are the veil.

Beauty is eternity gazing at itself
    in a mirror.

    But you are eternity
    and you are the mirror.

I would add Cream and not just Clapton....In fact, Cream influenced Al and Mike as well...Both the drums and bass in Van Halen is very “creamy” at times...
"People say Cream gave birth to Heavy Metal," says Baker. "If that's so, we should have had an abortion."
