    Which bands? Not many.
Just did a quick google search:

"As of 2019, Spotify reported that they pay between $0.00331 and $0.00437 per stream to artists for their songs."

    So quick math 275 000 X 0.00437 = 1201.75
Sure it's more than what Alex said, but if you deduct all the taxes and then split it, each person will make less than a $100, which is rather small.

    I was being sarcastic.

We have “music industry experts” here who say that artists are making a killing off of streaming music.

Al's absolutely right about the destruction digitized, downloaded, and streaming technology has brought to the music business.....And now with Covid the live performance revenue stream for artists has also dried up.

Perhaps just as scary is that once the nation climbs out of this pandemic, there may be far fewer venues with which to actually play for a paying audience.
"People say Cream gave birth to Heavy Metal," says Baker. "If that's so, we should have had an abortion."

Alex has talked about this before in past interviews, where he saw what happened to his Pop and all the big band and jazz musicians. Its interesting we always think of some of these famous musicians being loaded, but watch documentaries or interviews with guys like Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson, and they often times didn't have a lot in their pockets.

    Who?

All I've ever read is artists complaining about how little they make from it.

Quick math, The Weekend was the most streamed artist of 2020, and he best guess made about $2.6M gross from it. Not bad, but that's the top guy. He probably grosses close to that in one live show.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

There is a reason the term "starving artist" exists.

Most don't make shit. I've told this on here before, but I did the taxes for a country music guy a while back. He was semi mainstream, had videos on CMT, opened on national tours for big name bands.

He didn't make jack shit. His school teacher wife made more than he did. By the time he paid for travel, studio time, musicians, producers, agents, etc., he netted a pittance.

He quit. He now writes songs for other artists, does corporate gigs, and makes a shit lot more money and doing it mostly from his home studio while being a stay at home dad. Unless you get to headliner status, the money isn't there.

Per him, no verification from me, put per him, the bands that can do pretty decent are the tribute bands and the wedding bands, but he couldn't bring himself to do that.

The Weekend? Who the fuck is that?? Probably some idiotic hip hop rapping "musician". Very loose term these days.

Yep, and with the big bands of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, think about the size of those bands and everyone needing to get paid.

Oh, and DD, its funny you should mention that the country artist said tribute bands and wedding bands do really well. A buddy from high school who likes to do cruises with his wife got to meet the Nelson twins on one of those cruises about 10 years ago, as they were "house" band on that cruise. They told my friend that they make a LOT of money just playing cruises, because he had asked them why they never really put out any more albums after they had that big one that got so much airplay on MTV around 91 or 92.

Not sure, but I think The Weeknd is the halftime show at the Super Bowl this year.

I spelled his name wrong earlier, it's Weeknd, not Weekend.

He has one song that you might have heard. There is worse stuff out there. Take a-Ha and make them a black guy in 2020.

The debate has been had here many times about whether streaming is good for the artists or not.

Artists get a raw deal from the streaming companies. There is not doubt about this.

My wife listens almost exclusively to top 40 pop radio and this guy is all over that shit with a bunch of singles the past few years. I think "Starboy" was his biggest single a year or two ago and he hit on this retro-80's new wave thing with "Blinding Lights" and has been mining that shtick ever since.
