Alex is definitely a get off my lawn kinda guy. That's not a criticism, just an observation.

It gets old though. The never ending "they'll never know" shit.

Blah blah we get it and as for books written, wasn't it reported Alex asked for a signed copy of VH Rising?

    He and Ed were musicians.

I fully get him, with this quote:

“And Ed and I don’t say anything because we’re not in the business of bullshitting on the internet and books and all that kind of crap. We just want to play. It’s that simple.”

They didn’t care if it was for themselves or for us. They just wanted to play music.

He used to talk a lot in interviews. I guess he just doesn’t do them like he did in the past.

I know it is only part of the interview, so it might be taken out of context, but those quotes make him sound extremely unlikeable.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Most likely the primary reason why VH rarely shared anything with the fans, media, anyone... has now been revealed.

I agree... it's not exactly an admirable attitude/personality trait for a globally famous entertainer who's core product content centered on fun loving, enjoyment of life... the darkness within..?

I have always thought the brothers hated the internet. After Sammy left and the social media world kicked in their interactive website showed how the fans really felt about the mess with the singers going back to 1984. It did not sit well. They got rid of the Pleasure Dome and never looked back and basically retired. From stories I heard all the way back to 77 Al was the big party man in the band and he had lots of party friends in every tour stop until he took the cure. Makes no difference now either way.
    10-6-2020 RIP King of sixstrings.

Maybe Al (just like Wolfgang) was struggling knowing that Ed was dying of cancer and time was short when he did the interview? I would imagine he hadbeen hurting for a while before Ed's death with the idea his baby brother was going to leave this world soon.

Exactly. Ed was less than 2 months away from passing. That close Al had to be dealing with the knowledge Ed was terminally sick. Can’t imagine the state of mind he must have been in.

Not the whole interview, but some new quotes came out today, and they're actually much more interesting, with a pretty fair assessment of Dave and Sam:

    https://ultimateclassicrock.com/alex...h-sammy-hagar/

“Part of it was the conflict between the band and Dave,” he said. “One of the things that made everything work was that we came from opposite ends of the spectrum. Dave was vaudeville. … Ed and I were coming from Cream, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath. So having that strange chemistry is what made it work, oddly enough. But you do need a mediator. Otherwise we would never have gotten anything done.”
He added: “If Dave came in with a song, I would respect how they heard it. And then it’s the old trick, ‘Keep your friends close and your enemies closer!’ And that means, ‘Okay, I’ll listen to you, but then I’m gonna make it mine. And by the end of the process it will sound nothing like what you hummed me.’”

Van Halen also noted that Hagar "has a great rhythmic sense and of course that voice. Dave was much more of a poet. Dave is creative – 90 percent of it is garbage, but that 10 percent is fucking worth it.” He said sometimes thought, "What planet did you come from?” when it came to Roth, but the drummer also pointed out that "we grew up together.”

PS: By the way, $27.63 for a magazine?! Isn't it a little steep?
