    Default Hot Damn

SMGAD is smokin' hot, and it is hard to argue with its awesomeness. But for me, DOA is menacing and feels like like the DNA that went into Fair Warning.

    DOA!
Give me ambiguity or give me something else!

Lol. Yeah, I'm pretty surprised that D.O.A. is faring so well against SGMAD.

    SGMAD is ESSENTIAL early VH.

I think that repeating bend, during the DOA riff, always annoyed me.

The riff is so mean, but that bend thrown in, sounds a tiny bit goofy.
It's like a duck, answering the riff.

Still a great song, musically & lyrically, except for that annoying call/response thing.

    Back in Black, too.
Love the song/riff, but hate that stupid descending open string lick they sprinkle in,
    over & over.
Like the stuttering, ascending riff, though (Kinda Zep).

I've posted this story on here more than once, but here it comes again.

Way back in the spring of 1979, my family and I took a trip up to Yosemite in a rented RV. After the first night there, my brother (who was 21 at the time) started off the morning by complaining about being awoken by someone repeatedly blasting some song about "a dirty faced kid in a garbage can." Ahh, memories ...

That bend i referenced, kind of gives the song a "slapstick/Benny Hill" kinda vibe.

They are playing it at double speed, no chugs, mostly gallops.

Ted reeled them in, for VHII.

Ted Templeman was the perfect producer for Van Halen. Too bad he (and Michael Anthony) weren't around for ADKOT.

SGMAD buries DOA for me personally.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR
