    Default Math Rock?

I've been seeing stuff like this pop into my feed recently. Apparently, this genre "math rock" has been around since the early 90's, but I don't remember the term.

There's a a lot of time changes and guitar players do a lot of tapping and sliding. Progressive type music.

Yvette is in a band called Covet. They're considered math rock. She's a great player but I don't know if we need another sub genre for this stuff.

I posted some of her stuff a few years back, and i really like her music.

It is funny how players like her & Sarah Longfield, really embraced the tapping thing,
almost more as a soundscape, as opposed to an LA shred kinda deal.

But a lot of women players seem to really like the technique, though they use it less
than an EVH , more as an almost chordal component.

It's amazing to me, how such young musicians have this inherent grasp of odd meters
and "outside fusion" jazz rock concepts.

This stuff would have been WAY over my head, at their age.

I like it too, Jape. They can dial up some cool landscapes. Like you said it's more of a "chord" thing than flat out tapping. Very cool.
But I've heard others like Mateus Asato doing similar stuff. Just never heard the term math rock before. But I had never heard Yacht Rock either. LOL.
I suck at math and I'm missing a few picking fingertips, so, this technique will never be in my arsenal.

    She's such a beautiful player.

When i watch her play, i get stuck in the "This looks so hard, how does she remember
    all these parts" mindset.

But when i listen to her, or Sarah, without the visuals, i'm really taken by the
    beauty of the music.

I also like that Yvette had these uber expensive Strandberg guitars thrown her way,
but she just loves her ratty old Ibanez Talman.

    Sarah uses the Strandbergs, though.

Yvette has a signature Talman now. Ibanez are being really smart with their artist roster, identifying them in the first place, going after them, and giving them a lot of creative control over the instrument design.
