NHL 20/21 Season Thread - Let's give Covid a game misconduct

It's opening night fellas!

Tampa is going to try to defend their Cup while Dallas is still working on shedding the 'Rona. That waiver wire is about worn out after Tuesday as a bunch of teams maneuvered to get under the cap and get guys on the taxi squads. Only a handful were claimed so the rosters are set and we're ready to drop the puck!

Games kickoff this afternoon with the Penguins in Flyers in the historic MassMutual^TM NHL Eastern Division. Yes, that's right, we have sponsors for the divisions and sponsors on the helmets. I don't blame them though with the loss of revenue. It would be great if that all went away once fans are back in the stands, but we all know how likely that is...

Penguins are back.....but with several changes....

2 time Cup winning goalie Matt Murray is out. Tristen Jarry takes over as the #1.

it is still the Crosby, Malkin show. As they go...so go the Pens. Guentzel, Tucker and Rust provide the secondary scoring. Def should be better, no Jack Johnson....lol.. Letang, Dumo, Marino are solid.

We really need the escape right about now. Will be glad to see my Leafs tonight. Fully prepared to be disappointed.

It shouldn't work..... but hoping Joe Thornton somehow has one last good ride with AM34 and Marner. Everyone stays healthy.... Mathews is a lock for the Rocket Richard trophy.....

Philly looks really strong. The Leafs and Habs had a great game last night with TOR coming out on top. Tampa snuffed out the Blackhawks who look like they're going to have a long season. Now it's time to gripe:

I get we want the nationally televised games, and they like to spread it out among all the markets so everyone can watch opening night. However, what the fuck is with the NHL having the STL/COL game drop the puck at 9:45 CT. , 8:45 MT. That's just dumb. I go to bed usually before the start of that game time. There was no way I was staying up to watch it. Thank god for highlight packages and DVR.

Ok, end of rant.

Mike Hoffman apparently had a work visa issue at the last minute so he was out of the lineup. They moved Sundqvist to the 2nd line with Thomas and Schwartz, and oh baby did they have a night. Sundqvist scored twice (not bad for a 4th liner) and Schwartz and Thomas looked great moving the puck around. Not as good as Nathan Mackinnon though. That guy is just on another level

Binnington looked great last night and the Blues came away with a 4-1 victory. Both teams play again on Friday, so that should be fun.

I'll make an effort to watch the Habs if they make some noise leading up to the first round of the playoffs. I dont feel like watching another wasted season of mediocrity, while the best goalie in the World is in net.

Keep an eye on rookie Kirill Kaprizov from the Wild. 5th round pick that turned into one of the best players in the KHL the last few years. Insane skills.
