Back in the days of record stores, when i was a music buyer for HMV, everyone had a damn
boxset, we had a section devoted to them, and they'd always sell.

Today, it would be a very limited market, with everyone streaming content.

I can't imagine it would be worth it to comb through the tapes, and put it out.
Unfortunately, this is the truth. A band would only do it because they want to give something to their fans, it isn't a financial windfall like it used to be.

The time to do it was in 1996. Do an album with DLR, clean up the old demos like "Let's Get Rockin'" before they got spread all over the internet, etc.

I doubt they ever do anything with it.

You reckon??? Bands are releasing box sets every second week. Everyone seems to be doing them these days...
If you have nothing nice to say about Eddie Van Halen, you're at the right website. - Me (A few years ago)

"People take Van Halen much more seriously than we do" - David Lee Roth (1980's)

"I don't sit on the end of your bed while you're trying to make a living" - David Lee Roth (1988)

"For some reason people love to complain about everything. The internet has made it easy for people to do that. Shut the fuck up and get a life, or show me how good you can do it."- Edward Van Halen

"A lot of people ask me which Van Halen singer was better. You can't compare them. It's like asking which guitarist is better. Nobody is better than anybody. Every player is their own person."-Edward Van Halen

"I do like Eddie Van Halen as a player. He gets it right quite often." -Paul McCartney

I'm sure the younger cats at the record label have seen the huge increase of mentions of name "van halen" post October 2020. They go on statistics. Based on that, I'm sure the feeling is that there's a big chunk of money to be made. So the market is ready for it. We'll see if the family greenlights it.

What market is ready for a VH box set?

Unfortunately brother, Billie Eilish is not in the minority of people who have no idea who VH is. She's in the majority.

We are ready for a box set. The die hards. We make up the small minority.

It is what it is. We need to enjoy what we have; and we have a lot. Anything extra from this point on is a major bonus.

So, you believe that 20 year olds are a strong market for a VH Box Set?

Iím sorry, but youíre sorely mistaken.

Itís difficult to acknowledge that our favourite band isnít really current anymore, but they arenít.

Most 20 year olds donít know who they are.

I estimate the visibility and demand for VH is highest since 1996.

Now that's not a guarantee of anything - there's always been a huge demand for Led Zeppelin shows post 1980 and almost none happen.

demand for what? There is no band. VH means near nothing to anyone under the age of 30.

Maybe yes, maybe no. My 30 year old nephew couldn't identify the 5150 Kramer, but my 10 year old grandson knew exactly what it was.

There is no visibility and there is virtually no demand. Iím sorry to break it to you, man.

People were surprised in 04í when they saw me, a 15 year old kid, show up for a Five Star Package. Thatís almost 20 years ago now.....Jesus fucking Christ....Iím old.

There are kids who have never heard of The Beatles or Zeppelin. But you think, because Ed died, theyíre interested in VH?

Unless theyíre guitar players, theyíve never heard of Van Halen.

Van Halenís not on their radar. The same way big band music wasnít on anybodyís radar in the 70ís and 80ís.

If I asked my kids who Led Zeppelin was I can assure none of them (13,10,10) would have a clue what i was talking about. If I asked them who Queen was they'd think I meant Queen Elizabeth. They know who the Beatles are, and know who VH is only because of me. But unless one of them played with Taylor Swift or something, they wouldn't know any of the rock acts we think are known everywhere.

Yep, I bought a couple last year. Tom Petty and Def Leppard sets.
ďAnd what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever Ė that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both Ė thatís intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.Ē - David Lee Roth

Lol, people acting like it matters if 20 yr olds would buy a VH boxset. People don't just stop listening to music when they hit 30. Or 40. Or 50.
