Seems like the days of the DVD or CD boxset are long gone.

There was a window of time there, and VH really missed that boat big time.
Back in the days of record stores, when i was a music buyer for HMV, everyone had a damn
boxset, we had a section devoted to them, and they'd always sell.

Today, it would be a very limited market, with everyone streaming content.

I can't imagine it would be worth it to comb through the tapes, and put it out.

Unfortunately, this is the truth. A band would only do it because they want to give something to their fans, it isn't a financial windfall like it used to be.

The time to do it was in 1996. Do an album with DLR, clean up the old demos like "Let's Get Rockin'" before they got spread all over the internet, etc.

I doubt they ever do anything with it.

I'm sure the younger cats at the record label have seen the huge increase of mentions of name "van halen" post October 2020. They go on statistics. Based on that, I'm sure the feeling is that there's a big chunk of money to be made. So the market is ready for it. We'll see if the family greenlights it.

We are ready for a box set. The die hards. We make up the small minority.

It is what it is. We need to enjoy what we have; and we have a lot. Anything extra from this point on is a major bonus.

If I asked my kids who Led Zeppelin was I can assure none of them (13,10,10) would have a clue what i was talking about. If I asked them who Queen was they'd think I meant Queen Elizabeth. They know who the Beatles are, and know who VH is only because of me. But unless one of them played with Taylor Swift or something, they wouldn't know any of the rock acts we think are known everywhere.
