I would have absolutely love to hear the other songs recorded during the sessions for ADKOT.

I mean, a 5150 and OU812 remaster would be nice. You know, a mix that has Michael Anthony in it.

    Exaggeration, but yes.

@alex.trejo.165 oh brother I know you get it right now the Van Halen the world is in limbo, no one taking charge except Alex and he doesn't want to do a box set. I would love to see that happen who knows down the road. Mikey and I are just loving the circle and stay out of VH business for now. 😘
Sadly the sourcing members of the band will wait maybe years before releasing any box sets of rarities etc ... With the hard core core of their fans getting older 40-60 years old for some by the time this happens it maybe too late as per normal with this band .... I was listening to Baluchitherium just yesterday while watching my daughter swim training laps at the local pool thinking jesus there must be countless hours of music just like this tune sitting collecting dust ... sad

I think there are two different paths, or sets of recordings in regards to future VH releases. There is the vault at 5150 with all the studio material that was recorded there from 1983 onwards which may sit quite awhile before anyone starts to go through those recordings. I believe Gene Simmons also gave Ed the master tapes for the "Zero Demos" a couple years ago, and I assume those are likely also at the 5150 vaults.

Then there is all the material that Warner Brothers (WB) already has, some of which was noted by that studio engineer in a recent Sunset Sound roundtable where he indicated 4 CDs worth of material were prepared back in the early 2000s. There are also the Pacific Archives material with various live shows, both audio and video. I see no reason why some of this material would not start to be released in the next year or two, but I guess that depends on who has business control and ownership of these recordings. Al, Wolf, Dave, or others would not have to really do any work to get this prepped and ready for release. My gut instinct tells me that we will start to see some archival VH releases later this year. While I would rather just buy strictly unreleased material, I think that WB will end up doing deluxe editions or boxsets of those first 6 DLR albums whereby studio outtakes and live shows are included, and possibly video as well.

Maybe I am overly optimistic, but I think WB will want to do something sooner rather than later in regards to VH. While physical media sales are continuing to decline, there is still money to be made currently by selling these types of deluxe edition boxsets to the hardcore fans.

The main thing is that there is no such thing as old and favorite songs in a new arrangement. I am not against a new arrangement, but it often spoils the opinion of the original version. Maybe I'm too conservative, but I'm for the original. After all, we loved the band for the original, not for the covers and arrangements.

I don't give a shit about a box set. I'd like the Sammy era remastered and pretty much anything in the vault. I imagine a lot of it will sound like Baluchitherium. And that's fine. I don't care. It ain't Brittany Spears or whatever shit the kids listen to.

Seems like the days of the DVD or CD boxset are long gone.

There was a window of time there, and VH really missed that boat big time.
Back in the days of record stores, when i was a music buyer for HMV, everyone had a damn
boxset, we had a section devoted to them, and they'd always sell.

Today, it would be a very limited market, with everyone streaming content.

I can't imagine it would be worth it to comb through the tapes, and put it out.
