Didn't see this mentioned - i spotted this comment from Sammy on Instagram - he was responding to someone asking for a VH boxset.

Makes sense that it would be Alex in charge of the VH music. I get that Wolfgang has the access to the piles of tapes at 5150 but it makes sense that the next surviving founding member with the last name Van Halen would have say in what happens with the music now.

Yup, even Wolfgang admitted he'd be more like a "junior custodian" to Alex's role in all of this. That's why I'm not holding my breath for anything from the 5150 vaults. I can't see Alex feeling the need to put together something for the fans. Hopefully he'll grow restless at some point down the road and prove me wrong.

Right now, I'm just banking on something coming out of whatever Sunset Studios is sitting on.

Actually I don't see why this is a deal. A box set likely would contain some rarities. This would require going through parts of the vault. Wolfgang already said that is for a later date. So unless Alex throws done his uncle card, nothing has changed. Actually if anything, maybe Sammy took the onus off Wolfgang and put it on Alex. Sure I guess they could find some stuff from the Sunset sessions to put on there but I imagine in the grand scheme of things, Alex has other things more pressing.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Alex has made a few mistakes fiscally and didn’t have the stipend that Eddie did. Alex may want to increase his nest egg and honor his brother at the same time.

I imagine if anyone knows what Eddie wanted released, it’s his brother.

Not sure I am catching what you mean by stipend? Al gets the same royalty checks Ed does. Ed has the EVHGear money, but who knows how much that is, most music manufacturers aren't cash cows.

I get completely that Alex is still grieving and will be for a long time. I also get that Wolfgang should absolutely go out and do his thing and forge his own path. My biggest fear is if something were to happen to Alex. He is probably the one guy on this earth that probably make any sense of what might be in the vaults. I'm sure Eddie did more than his share of late night recording just by himself but I'll bet Eddie and Alex jammed on a ton of stuff together that was recorded. Alex also got sober around 1988 and though he had a slight lapse after Sammy left, he got back to it again so I would bet he remembers a fair amount of stuff pertaining to what is in there. Even if they hired some die hard VH guys that were professional engineers, I would bet they could at least start the process and weed out some of the stuff so that when Alex and Wolfgang got around to listening, it wouldn't be one giant mess.

I would just hate to see something happen to Alex and have him take all of his knowledge with him. Hopefully Alex is with a long time though.
