...and then [Roth] can’t sing my songs... This guy is such an ass-hat! My God, he just can't help himself. No matter what the situation, what the tragedy, what dire news there is, he just can't fucking help himself!!!

Whether Dave can or can't sing Sammy songs, does Sam or anyone on this board believe for one second Dave would EVER sing a Sammy song? Ever??? But Sam has to go the lowest road possible and say Roth CAN"T sing his songs. Even in the wake of Eddie's death he still can't let it go.

Would have been an epic tour. Let's face it Dave couldn't sing Sammy's songs, just as Sammy didn't sound right singing Dave's songs.

I think both Sammy and Dave have traded jabs about this very thing.

They are as bad as each other. But Sammy hasn’t taken the low road this time. He’s just gotten mixed up. He’s forgotten obviously that Ed and Al basically ignored the whole Sammy era, when Dave came back in ‘06. They were focusing on the older stuff only. He just wasn’t thinking what he said.
There’s nothing here really, so no means to really blow it up to be something else.

but even if the brothers wanted him to sing a few Sammy songs

1- DLR would never ever sing any of the Sammy era songs
2- DLR voice is great for classic VH, he doesn't have the range to sing the higher octave stuff Sammy was able to do.
3- the brothers had no choice to keep it classic only for the final run
4- if you notice Ed played during some songs some riffs from Sammy era- so he had wanted to play at least (maybe?) a few songs .
5- It was reported that someone in the camp (either wolf, Alex or Ed wanted to play Sammy era stuff towards the End.

I am not slagging Dave or Sammy. both brought different workings to VH. all I know is that David brought VH to a blistering height, and Sammy was able to keep it there. how many band had success after firing/quitting of their their lead singer.

not to many at all and not to the same heights. I do think without Sammy joining in 86 Van Halen would not have been as successful from 86-96 (my opinion).

so I view it as a shot in the arm to continued success.

I love both versions of VH. both to me have a plus and negative, and I can accept that.

Not all of David's stuff was Legendary and not all of Sammy's stuff was golden in Van Halen

Yup. And I wouldn't want Dave to sing Sammy songs anyway. On those three 'reunion' tours with Dave, all I wanted to hear was music from the 6-pk. Honestly, I didn't even need to hear songs from ADKOT live--STW was cool, but Tattoo and China Town didn't do it for me in concert. Bring on Atomic Punk, EWS, DDL, Dirty Movies etc. (I would have loved to hear the BOV1 Dave tunes as well!) I was making up for lost time in having never seen VH live with Dave. After seeing a Sammy-led VH for 5 or 6 tours the last thing I wanted to hear was Right Now again.

Just a point of fact Dave has a bigger range than Sam. That said Sam is a better singer currently and always has been more powerful. Range is just not an overrated metric for singers.
I'm sure the brothers always loved the music they created with sam in the same way Dave loves the music he created with others as well. Why would any of them not like their own art? But they celebrated they band they created and the art they created together. Dave was never asked and Alex is on record as saying they never would. Nor were the brothers asked to play any of Dave's stuff.
Dave liking his own art or the brothers liking theirs is not a slight against anyone, it is artists being proud of their work period. That pride is true regardless of first wife second wife stuff.
I'm sure reasons artists favor different creations at times but being proud of your own stuff is not uncommon.
