The first live Van Halen video footage EVER pre-1978. In fact, this is from their first official year as a band: 1974.

Thank you Mary S., Karen Imler, Kim, Debbie, Greg Renoff, the VHND, and of course, Santa! I believe the first 4 were the hosts of the infamous you-a-rowdy-bunch-of-motherfuckers backyard party--cop footage included! And, you can see the girls partying afterwards.

I don't care if you can hardly see it. I don't care if there's no audio. And I don't give a shit that it's just a minute long. This is unreal. Outside of that recent footage of Eddie playing football on the beach and MAYBE those 3 1/2 music videos they did for VHI (they technically may have been shot in '77 versus '78, never saw a confirmation)...this is, again, the only pre-'78 video footage ever seen yet. Despite the tons of audio.

I came here a couple days ago looking for a thread about this film footage and found nothing. Thanks for mentioning it! Old amateur silent 8mm footage, but amazing nonetheless. The earliest footage of Van Halen now known to exist.

Funny...I was going through my two bins of music VHS the other day and found some old footage I could not find on YT...some 81 footage from Chicago and other places (not Oakland unfortunately).

How would one convert it to digital so I could post on YT?

Would that be Memphis and/or Charleston, WV? The Memphis is on YouTube and the Charleston is shot from a distance a level or two up stage right with no audio (yet pretty long).

Not sure about the transferring though outside of buying a VHS/DVD converter, but I'm sure there's a better way.

It might be...I seem to recall DLR screaming about Chicago but I could be wrong. So I was watching on a Samsung VCR/DVD converter unit I have maintained and I thought about converting to DVD but I use a Google Chromebook at home...no cd/dvd drive. In addition even my work laptop no longer has a drive.

So even if I spend the time to convert the stuff getting it to digital is a challenge for now....

Yeah I only have about 70 VH/DLR/SH/Gary VHS's to convert myself. Been meaning to do it for 17 years now. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow. Should only take about a half hour.
