    Default EVH Striped Series

Hi, new to the forum, but not to VH.

Would like know if anyone has the EVH Striped series guitar and what your thoughts are as I am considering getting one.

Read some onsite reviews at sites like sweetwater, etc. and while it is mostly favorable, it is the unfavorable ones that stand out.

    Thanks.

I have the striped 5150. I love the sound and it sets up like a dream, and the drop D is precise. The only thing I was curious about before I bought it was the modified C shape description about the neck profile. It turns out that it is a little deeper C than one of my Ibanez guitars and my Tele but it is still very comfortable and plays fast. If possible, the best thing to do is to put one in your hands before purchase.

I have a R/W/B EVH striped series. Obviously you're limited with your range with 1 pickup & 1 knob so it only really does 1 thing tone wise. The guitar is not versatile... but what it does, it does extremely well. The EVH pickup is very aggressive and bright. The neck is comfortable

My main guitar is a Peavey Wolf Standard that I really enjoy but when I just want to play a VH tune, I have no qualms about picking up my striped - it's fun to play.

As you may have seen in the negative reviews, mine came with the D-Tuna unit set so close to the body it's (almost) unusable. Not a problem for me as I rarely use it, but it could be an issue if I cared enough about it.

I bought the Bumblebee. It's a fun guitar and a nice tribute to Ed's early look and sound. The main complaint is the D-Tuna nearly resting on the body. I've got to remedy that situation. While the modified C is not as comfortable for my hand as the asymmetrical neck on the EBMM and Peavey models, it is still a fast a comfortable neck.

    Thanks all.

I own mostly Gibson (Les Paul Standard, 1976 Firebird) & Fenders (84 Strat) as well as some others.

Wondering about how the neck might compare to either Gibson's or Fenders.

Also, what is the remedy for the D-Tuna?

Torn between the black & white and black & yellow.

Would love to handle one, but everything is in lockdown plus not really seeing any immediate availability from the online places.

The remedy for the D-Tuna is not to use it. Just make sure you have your fine tuner in far when you tune to E. Then when you need to drop to D just back the fine tuner out. It’s very simple and it doesn’t take much more than a couple seconds to retune your guitar after you back out the tuner. You’re always having to double check the D-Tuna anyway when you pull it out.

Yep. I took them off both of my Peavey Wolfs. There’s room on the fine tuner to go from E to D. Just adds more unnecessary bulk to an already bulky tremolo.

If I have them on guitars I’ve left them, but I no longer use them on anything new I’ve gotten. The only one that I think works really well is the one on my Peavey Wolf. That one to me is flawless.

I’ve never had any trouble with my D-Tuna, on any of my guitars, after settling them up.

I've had both the R/B/W Striped Series and the 5150 guitar. To me, the 5150 is far superior. I liked playing the regular stripe series but could never really bond with it for some reason. Kind of a souped up San Dimas, which makes sense since they come from the same factory. The 5150 does too but it's a totally different story. Plays like a dream, stays in tune, the neck is amazing, sounds fantastic, just an all around fun guitar to rip with. More of an investment, but I found a great deal on a barely used floor model and have never regretted it. It's the first thing I pick up when I jam in my office. Would love to use it in my worship team but I'm afraid I'd give some old ladies a heart attack if they saw Eddie's axe being played next to a gigantic cross.

I mean the only thing that bugs me about them is when you pull them out sometimes you know you have to double check the tuning. They’re not always dead on, at least not for me. I guess that’s the part that is annoying about having them. The only one that works without needing to worry about that is the one in my Wolfgang. The rest are kind of hit and miss. So I’ve just gone with backing out the fine tuner and taking five seconds to check it. I can pretty much tune to drop D by ear anyway as I’m sure you guys can.
