Don Sutton was a staple of the 1970's Dodgers, along with guys like Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell, Ron Cey and Steve Yeager. I loved those Dodger teams, even though they broke my heart in the 1974, 1977 and 1978 World Series'.

They made up for it in '81, though.

Guys, very sad day here in Atlanta. The king has left us. Greatest baseball player ever and an even nicer guy. The city and baseball is mourning.

    Damn.

The night the following happened, I was playing a little league game at Granada Middle School in Whittier, CA. That's Bill Buckner climbing the chain link fence in left field ...

I became a baseball fan in 1974, but not before the start of the season. I remember the morning of April 9, 1974 - I was eating my bowls of cereal and they kept talking on the radio about some home run and kept playing the audio and I had no idea what the hubbub was all about. A few weeks later I would buy my first packs of baseball cards and it would all start coming to me the significance of that moment.

Hank Aaron - you were a true legend and an ambassador to humanity and I wish I had gotten to see more of your career other than the tail end. Rest in peace, sir.

Today we can all be Braves fans.

I donít think people really realize how big of a deal he is here in Atlanta.

    The town might shut down.

He was the quintessential southern gentleman off the field and quite simply the best on the field.

I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. Once at turner field once at a fundraiser. Got to speak with him about 10 minutes total. He was humble, kind and wasnít what you think the greatest baseball player ever would be. Just a kind man. I still have his autograph on the invitation envelope from that night.

He will be missed. God bless him.

I still have his near mint rookie card. My prized possession, but itís not nearly worth what it was at one point. Maybe itíll go up now that heís passed. Also have a lot of his other cards over the years.

RIP to the real home run king!

The 1954 topps rookie is still worth a fair amount Brett. Last I looked it was around 1300.

Thatís nothing. At one point it was almost 8000 or 9000. Then that market just tanked.

I think I paid 200 bucks for it almost 38 years ago. It has not exactly gone up like it probably would have if the market continued to be good.
