Default 2020-2021 MLB Hot Stove thread

sad for the loss of some 40 minor league teams. I had been trying to fit a few minor league games in different places into my schedule in recent years. On the good side for me, Jacksonville, which had been the Marlins AA affiliate, is now the AAA affiliate, so hopefully conditions will allow for a few trips there this year. Also I had been trying to put together trips to Pensacola and Charleston, and now that those teams are affiliated with the Marlins and Rays respectively, it might put more of an impetus on getting that done! And Daytona keeps their team, so hopefully another trip to that ballpark is on the horizon, especially since I will live a little bit closer to Daytona.

Does that mean the Orioles might now be the best baseball team in the state of Maryland?

Maybe you still have the Bowie Bay Sox. The Orioles highest paid player Chris Davis probably would not make any minor league team starting line up. And the Orioles pay him and let prospects go. Its the Oriole way since Angelos bought the team in the 90s.

Well at least you guys pay somebody. My team "the team formally known as the Indians" simply develop great players for other teams. Once their contract is up they are too cheap to pay because the owner needs money from the franchise. Nope owning a team isn't a rich mans hobby for them. Its like they bought a 40 foot boat and just leave it at the dock. Can't afford to take it out and sniff lines off a strippers backside.

Since 2007 they have had 5 Cy Young winners. They traded two of them in their prime and got Brantley and Carlos Carrasco really in return. Brantly left as a Free Agent due to money. Five winners = 0 World Series rings. Actually almost can say they developed 6 Cy Young winners because they traded Trevor Bauer in 2019 and he won the Cy Young in 2020 for the Reds. Oh yeah also let Jim Thome and Manny go as well. Going to be trading Francisco Lindor very soon too.

They can develop talent but can't keep it around. Very frustrating

Well, at least the Cavs never lost any player of note to a big market ...

Costs big money to win and even bigger money to keep winning. The owner in Baltimore told the media when he let Mike Mussina go FA ....Why should I pay a pitcher all that money when he only works once every 5 games? My answer is well sell the team to someone who will. MLB has a problem with many teams in that respect. Maybe these cheapo owners should buy a business that can sell an inferior product and get away with it. This mind set has no place in modern pro sports imo.

    Hagerstown, too.

Really wish I'd done some minor league games when i lived there. Frederick, Hagerstown, I think Aberdeen had a team at the time too - all would've been easy trips. Maybe that's the problem - too easy! I like a bit of a drive sometimes...

That sucks. I have some Frederick Keys gear, loved going to games there.
