"Like Proust with a lemon cookie"...dear God, that right there in a nutshell is what DLR brought to VH.

Not too many frontmen (if any) would come up with that.

Just based on what the interviewer wrote, you can tell that was a typical exhausting effort to pry stuff out of DLR. Dave was probably going full Diamond and throwing all of his one-liners out there with little substance in between, and then when there was finally a little nugget of real info between boisterous laughs at his own jokes and references, the interview hurriedly scribbled them down.

The Four Horseman quote is classic Dave....For me, that’s what he brought to Van Halen...Quirky and insightful intellect. Which is why his lyrics are on another plane as compared to most songwriters in the hard rock genre.

And he never takes himself too seriously at the end of the day....

The more uncomfortable and less he wants to reveal the more the Diamond routine you get. A tool to control and deflect. He will do a more personal podcast type interview like he did pre Vegas during the winter as more material rolls out.
