There's pitch effects as early as VH2. IIRC it's really easy to hear on the down sections of Bottoms Up.

Women In Love, too, I believe.

At least as an "always on" effect, it didn't come until later. I still don't have a foot controller for the AxeFX, otherwise, I'd definitely put pitch effects onto scenes for just parts of certain songs. Right now, I can't even play ATBL properly because I can't kick on a flanger without reaching over and hitting a button.

I always liked his tone on VHII the best, it's on the dry side. I think Dave Friedman said in a recent podcast that his favorite Ed tone was from VHII as well. But that's all opinion. He had a great a tone on many of the albums. A lot of people like his Fair Warning tone the best, a lot like the first album's tone.
Give me the raw fury of WACF.

I'd say WACF has the most gain of any guitar on the six pack. Medium amount of reverb in comparison to VH and VHII, somewhere in the middle. No modulation/pitch effects like the following albums.

Yeah WACF has a much drier sound than the following albums. I think some of that is the result of what Ed was getting using Chris Holmes’ Destroyer on that album.

Ed also does very little tapping on the album. Jape used to always say this was the album where Ed sort of channeled his Club Days self, and I kind of agree. Especially when the album is full of songs from their early days(IASR, TYWH, Fools).

I know there are actually less overdubs on the debut, but man, WACF just sounds like a crazy raw "live in the studio" kind of album. I'll never get tired of listening to my favorite album ever.

I always thought WACF sounded wetter and more distant than VHII, especially tunes like TYWH, there's a load of reverb on that. WACF is also one of my least favorite Dave albums... ducks for cover.

His tone on tunes like DOA, Beautiful Girls, SGMAD, Light up the Sky is killer. His tone on the solo for You're No Good is awesome. Outta Love Again, the whole album. I know I'm the odd man out but VHII is one of my favorite VH records.

Yep. Greatest guitar tone ever. The amp sounds like it's about to explode.

Fools was and always will be my favorite song off WACF and believe it or not, Could This be Magic? I liked when they would mix it up and do different shit like that. Plus I liked Eddie's slide work on that tune. I never liked Loss of Control and I 'm burned out on Romeo Delight, same goes for And the Cradle Will Rock and Take Your Whiskey Home. Good tunes but if I never heard them again I'd be o.k. with it. I used to love In a Simple Rhyme back in the day but not so much now. That album didn't hold up well for me for some reason. But I know people love it and it's their favorite album from VH. I used to rank it higher. Certain albums from certain bands drop in ranking for me over the years. There's albums I used to love 30 years ago and now I'm just like..meh.

I will never understand how so many VH fans can say they don't like Loss Of Control. Showcases the brilliance of Ed and Al. Oh well, to each their own.

Pretty sure you know that people’s issues with that song have nothing to do with Ed or Al. They don’t like the vocals. It’s definitely in my bottom in terms of songs that I want to sit and listen to if I could choose other VH songs.

That's pretty much it. I always thought the vocal melodies were really weak. It almost seems like a fuck around tune Ed and Al came up with and Dave just walked in threw something on top of it. Ed and Al played great on it.

That tune should have been an instrumental. The vocal on that track is just unnecessary. Shame because the music itself is smokin.
