Default Should ADKOT be re-released on vinyl?

Vinyl has made quite a comeback in the last 5 years.
I missed the vinyl version the first time, but copies are going for 300 bucks right now.
Maybe they could do a re-release of ADKOT to order?

I wish they would. I'm in the same boat. I missed getting a copy when it first came out and I refuse to spend that kind of money for what it's getting these days.

Sonically, with the brickwalling on that album, I wouldnít shell any money out for a vinyl edition.

From a collector standpoint, it would be a cool memento, I suppose.

Got the vinyl when it came out. Itís red vinyl- pretty cool. Definitely wouldnít pay $300 for it... I do wish the album wasnít mixed so loud & brickwalled- as was the trend at the time. Itís not the worst offender, but definitely pushing it.

I have the vinyl release and yeah, it's more or less just the same brickwalled digital master pressed on vinyl as the CD and digital download versions. I will say, the packaging and graphics make for by far the best *lookin* Van Halen album in their catalog. The gatefold sleeve, printing, silver embossing, Dave's little illustrations and handwritten lyrics in a larger than CD size topped by the records being pressed in red wax make for a great looking package. If there is ever a re-issue of ADKOT, someone needs to go back to the multi-tracks and remix a non-brickwalled, more dynamic for vinyl version.

What I would like to see short term, is the Hagar era and even the Cherone album (which has never been released on vinyl) remastered and re-released on vinyl. Both F.U.C.K. and especially Balance are very pricey as used LPs. Balance would greatly benefit as being re-done as a 2 LP set with ample room for all tracks from the CD release including even b-side Crossing Over.

Finally, I'd say the vinyl fad has peaked. Obviously Covid is accelerating the process but I'm seeing a lot of record stores closing and big box stores that carry or carried records like Barnes and Nobel and Best Buy starting to drastically trim down or eliminate their record stock.

It really is a shame that the production on ADKOT wasn't more akin to that of Fair Warning and Balance. Ear fatigue sets in pretty quickly on what is actually a really good album.

I realize there's probably an entire thread devoted to this, but I'm going to ask here anyway. Are the remastered original 6 that were released a few years ago worth getting on vinyl?

Most definitely. Esp with a great clean Amp driving your stereo setup.

    ++++++++

One thing they now should do is remaster all the 12 records to High Def audio.

iTunes now can import and playback full 24bit-48kHz digital audio files, which sound so much clearer and more dynamic than the old standard digital MP3 versions that have been the standard for 20 years. They are even better than vinyl. They just need to A-D convert the original tapes to 24/48 digital.

The file sizes are about 75Mb per song, instead of 5Mb, but the sound improvement is so killer. The entire music industry should be offering this as a new release format across the board.

I remember an old interview where Ed rightly complained about the sound quality of cds. So many years later now and supposedly DVD-A(dvd audio) is supposed to replace the cd format. It's 24bit 96khz. Yet to see any evidence of it.

They're good if you don't already have older or even original releases but imo, if you want the best reissue versions of the first 3 albums (especially VH1 which is the definitive vinyl release) and 1984, look for the older 2009 reissues pressed at RTI with the silver label.

The more recent vinyl reissues from 2015 which is what you'll find on shelves now and include Fair Warning and Diver Down (which didn't get a 2009 RTI release) are fine although 1984 has a couple of glitches apparently due to analog tape damage in the opening track.

The original Roth era 6 pack was released in hirez 192kHz/24bit audio which is Blu-ray quality audio bundled with the Tokyo Dome show and the 2 1996 Roth era tracks off the Best Of compilation. They are by a decent margin the best the respective albums ever sounded on any format. Unfortunately, Warner Bros or someone in the VH camp pulled that collection from places like HDTracks a year or two ago and now it's only available in CD quality audio at the same high price. However, you can still buy the individual 6 pack albums in that format individually, but the price is pretty steep per album:

    Awesome!... Thanks for the info...

Look's like $24 per album for 24/192, and $19 for 24/96kHz (which is fair IMO)
