I don't have the renoff book. Will see if there is an audiobook version -- Getting old and need glasses.NOW I know why EVH switched to block inlays on his signature models! I can't see the position marker dots with the baked maple neck!

Either way --- Man, that's like the 4th or 5th reply and still no talk about Star Fleet?

I think this is a really good guess.

    1) YAYB sounds like "One I Want" part 2, definitely Ed's late 90s/early 2000s headspace.
    2) Based on the "extraterrestrials on acid intro" description I'm convinced China Town was on VH3.2, which would make sense to revisit with Dave in 2000.
    3) The aforementioned similarities between HBSD and Flex.

There wasn't too much about Jimmy P in the book, but there was some. And I'm sure there's some thread about Star Fleet on this site somewhere in the past, but you'd have to search for it.

Not may have, but Stone actually did play on the earliest versions of TYWH and IASR.

I've had the album for years since it came out but didn't realize until recently there's also an extra song " Son Of Starfleet", not on the album only released as the B-side on the single.

I did read a blurb in a Brian May interview he said he'd like to put out a reissue in the future. It's fun to listen to once in a while.

Here's a few studio pics. I posted a few a while back in the photo thread.

Thank you so much for those pictures. Ed look sso happy and engaged in a new creative activity with some great musicians. I'm sure he was nervous, but that record is alot of fun. I just miss Ed so much.

The Starfleet Project is essential listening for all EVH and Brian May fans, I think.

Greg Renoff's book, Van Halen Rising is the best book I've ever read on the band.
Well researched, very descriptive, I felt I was at some of those early backyard parties while reading it.
I really hope in the forthcoming years we're lucky enough to get an official release of some of the early demos the band recorded during that time.
ďAnd what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever Ė that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both Ė thatís intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.Ē - David Lee Roth

So I just received a new book from Martin Popoff and he included my name on the inside page and an envelope with some high gloss pics....it is outstanding. Frankly I do not remember pre-ordering it but I must have....it is excellent.

I posted some pics on my Instagram (rvk5150) if anyone is interested and I would post here but cannot figure out how to upload pics.

Awesome... I've got a copy coming too. I cant wait. Not a cheap book though...
If you have nothing nice to say about Eddie Van Halen, you're at the right website. - Me (A few years ago)

"People take Van Halen much more seriously than we do" - David Lee Roth (1980's)

"I don't sit on the end of your bed while you're trying to make a living" - David Lee Roth (1988)

"For some reason people love to complain about everything. The internet has made it easy for people to do that. Shut the fuck up and get a life, or show me how good you can do it."- Edward Van Halen

"A lot of people ask me which Van Halen singer was better. You can't compare them. It's like asking which guitarist is better. Nobody is better than anybody. Every player is their own person."-Edward Van Halen

"I do like Eddie Van Halen as a player. He gets it right quite often." -Paul McCartney

What time span does the Popoff book cover?

Tattoo makes sense. It would have been topical and trendy in 2000 as opposed to passe when it was released.
