May have just been wishful thinking by producers of the show.
My recollection was that after the INXS season in 2005, there was possibly going to be a VH season in 2006, and that DLR was supposedly going to be one of the contestants. I also heard a rumour on the radio around 1997 that DLR was forming a new band with Slash & Tommy Lee, that was going to be called "Tommy"....crazy, right?!?

Strangely enough, just yesterday I saw a post on the DLR Army forums that those videos were slated for "Sunday Afternoon in the Park" and "One Foot Out the Door." And, it was from WARF, who I think is their "Brett."

I always assumed it was for "Mean Street" for some reason.

At least one or two promo videos shot in some Dinosaur theme park for songs from the Fair Warning album.

Billy Sheehan joining the band and replacing Mike starting with the Fair Warning album and tour.

The "Road Movie" that Roth talked about in an interview with Hustler around the time of the Fair Warning album. Supposedly a Live album culled from the WACF or even VHII tour that would have included x-rated backstage footage interspaced between songs. The format would be very similar to Led Zep's Song Remains The Same movie except w/hardcore sex. It turned out this was the infamous "home movies" shot of the band in 1978 having sex with groupies filmed by former manager Marshall Berle and shown to secretaries at a Warner Bros meeting while he still managed the band.

Van Halen recorded and filmed show(s) during the US Diver Down tour for a double live album and home video release as part of the strategy to "give the band a breather" before the next studio album (which became 1984).

The Van Halen "Crazy From The Heat" soundtrack for Roth's (aborted) movie.

A late 1985 Van Halen album following Roth's departure that would have featured guest singers on different tracks. Included guests would have included Pete Townsend, Phil Collins and others.

The Mitch Malloy-front VH before Gary was hired.

A Roth reunion in 2000 that would have included either a retrospective box set with several new tracks recorded at the time or a new full studio album and likely eventual tour. Derailed by legal issues between Roth and the band and Ed's cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The 2017 or 2018 reunion stadium tour with Mike and possibly (but unlikely) Dave and Sammy co-fronting featuring major acts like Metallica, Foo Fighters, etc supporting. Basically Monsters Of Rock II.
I've never seen any mention of Sam being on the last tour, except by fans who wanted him there to fulfill there dream of a double singer tour.

That we would see the Steinberger GL2T on stage again.

Jeff Babicz rebuilds Eddie's Steinberger. https://www.guitarworld.com/news/edd...er-5150-guitar
When discussing the restoration approach with Eddie, he says “this guitar is as important to the music as the songs themselves…I want to play this guitar again, people want to see this guitar.”

Perhaps for "Me Wise Magic." Remember Wolf said he wanted it in the setlist.

Or more recently what Ed told Nuno, sounded like the original band riding off into the sunset one more time, as it should've been, but wasn't meant to be sadly.

Yes so Eddie kind of made it sound like getting his Steinberger restored that we might hear the original songs written with it. Doesn't matter it was great to see him play and hear all the awesome music while Eddie graced this earth.

This one is kind of hazy to me, but I seem to remember a long time ago there was a rumor where Eddie started out on drums and Alex started on guitar. I know it sounds ridiculous, but can anyone confirm this crazy story?

You know, I was DYING to hear Summer Nights, or Get Up played live forever. They virtually never strayed off the radio tunes from 5150 post-88. It drove me crazy and it JUST occurred to me why that probably was. Eddie may have had language in his contracts at the time with Ernie Ball and then Peavey that restricted what he could play onstage. By the time he got a Steinberger equipped WG, Sam was gone. And, then 2004....dead horse. That MAY also be why he changed the neck of the 5150 guitar on the '04 tour to the unbranded s-type neck. Hell, even Mike switched gear as Ed did. When Ed played MM, Mike did, too. When Ed played Peavey, Mike did, too. Probably all contract-based.

I don't know, man. He's Eddie Freakin' Van Halen. I really doubt anyone was going to tell him what he could and couldn't play. I think if he really wanted to, he could've found a way to play those songs. I just figured they were only interested in whatever the current album was. Think about it--they rarely played the song 5150 either, and that didn't require a Steinberger. When Sammy was in the band, they would play the hell out the current album, then just the radio hits for the old stuff. Many people didn't like the Balance Tour set list because of this reason. I think they played like 7 or 8 songs from the Balance album on that tour. When you include all of their solo spots, that didn't leave much room for anything else.

I mean you could be right, just giving my thoughts. I wanted to hear Summer Nights too.
