Now we could push Buttons and use a quarter of the ground forces and do it. You have to think, if we didnít give a fuck about civilians in a war capacity, we could take over anything.

Our military brass doesn't like that kind of talk. They are still playing the World War II way of war. There is absolutely no reason to have the numbers of ground forces. But then again, the U.S. holds to playing by a ridiculous set of rules for war, while the other side is a free for all.

USA could have Dresdened Vietnam incendiary is no longer used even flame throwers are out of use. They did use napalm but not in cities. You can't win other countries civil wars. Same in Korea and Afghan. If jihadi does another 9-11 here it will be interesting to see the response.

Had the war in Vietnam gotten worse, and Johnson had won in 1968, I could see the united states using a nuke as a deterrent.

Iím actually surprised they didnít in Korea.

MacArthur wanted to invade China on the ground during Korea. Truman relieved him of duty. Patton wanted to use Nazi soldiers in US uniforms and invade Russia. He was silenced then died in a car accident. Imagine if China and Russia today where our friends? And N Korea was eliminated. Oh well

It's not that, it's the loss of civilian life. When you are in Vietnam, how the hell do you tell a north Vietnamese from a south Vietnamese, or in Afghanistan, a radical Muslim from a peaceful Muslim? You can't.

Civil actions are an almost no win situation. But, if you were going in as a conqueror, that no longer applies.

And that morality is the obviously very poor point I was trying to make. We could take over most countries very easily if it wasn't for that pesky morality.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

It was considered by the US, but they thankfully decided it was better to lose some face internationally than nuke a bunch of innocent civilians.

We have not engaged in the type of warfare that won WW2 since WW2. The type of warfare that is like the Honey badger where it don't give a shit. We never sent hundreds of B 29 Superfortresses loaded with Napalm to drop on wood houses in Tokyo. We could have easily done something similar to every major city in Vietnam and outcome would have been different. We likely would have if not for the Cold War. We didn't have to worry about that with Tokyo or Dresden. Soviets were on our side. They were also raping every German woman on their way to Berlin. The allies were not worried about the ramifications of what happens after the war. They wanted to win the war and demoralized the other side so much, peoplel who killed 15 million Jewss, homsexuals, slav, etc just gave up. Saem with the Japanese who had commited troops doing suicide bombings. They just said "no mas" It was that devestation.

There was zero political pressure on what we did. Compare that to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq 1 and 2. Afghanistan. You now have the United Nations to answer for. Back then you didn't

If the United States wanted to go WW2 on somebody they certainly could. We just don't because we are more evolved

When LBJ ordered the first bombings of Hanoi the city was never leveled. No incendiaries where used just like all the bombs US uses today in air strikes. My dad a die in the wool FDR dem used to tell me as a boy if we just burned the entire country down it be over quick. We never did. And looking back on it in spite of the 68k US Kia it was right. Then Nike moved in and made Vietnam the shoe manufacturing capitol of the world with slave like labor.
The whole thing was a clusterfuck with both parties sharing in a bipartisan bloodbath.

Damn....forgot about that show completely! I used to watch as a kid...ironically, I can still hear the chorus of the title song in my head "I'm BJ Mckay and this is my best friend bear".
