I like how Biden went out of his way to single out discrimination against Asians - specifically China by somehow forbidding anyone calling Covid the "China Virus" etc in another toothless EO and then tied it to George Floyd's death. Joe may as well make a visit to the Wuhan China market where this all started and have a bowl of bat noodle soup while giving Xi Jinping a handjob under the table.

Trump was the only world leader, I knew of, referring to Covid as "The China Virus".

I'm not sure how anybody couldn't see how offensive that could be to Chinese Americans, or any Chinese person in North America.

For me, she isn't a Doctor, she holds a doctorate. Technically, lawyers are doctors too, but no one called Johnny Cochrane "Dr. Cochrane". Michelle got grief for trying to have kids eat healthier, Melania had the audacity to try bring attention to bullying, and poor Jill baked some cookies and is getting grief for it. As you said, welcome to being the first lady, where the most simple kind gesture can be made out to be a felony offense.

There is a reason no one calls a lawyer "Doctor" . J D stands for juris doctor but it doesn't mean you have a doctorate. It is just the very basic law degree without even any specialization . There is another title for that ... J S D or SJD...Doctor of Juridical Science, that you get after extended study of the law and in that line of study you write and defend a dissertation.

so to be an attorney and be rightfully called "Dr" you would have to study an additional 3 years or so in a specialized area like constitutional law, , write a dissertation and get your JSD degree. Your typical practicing lawyer will not go this route, It is basically for those who go into teaching at a very high level or research

However in college unless we had been instructed otherwise, we were to call all of our professors who had doctorates "Doctor". Didn't matter if they had a PHD in Economics, History, Theater or Music, we were to call them Doctor unless they told us not to

The reason we are still told to call professors with PhDs as “doctor” is that’s actually where the word comes from.

Now, as a matter of linguistics, usage determines meaning. So if we continue to specialize the term doctor to only mean physicians, then that’s the way it’s going to be.

However, if you look backwards, the English word doctor comes from the Latin word for teacher. It meant someone with enough education they had the right to teach.

We started referring to physicians as doctors after doctor also began being used as a verb, first to say they doctored you or awarded you the title of doctor. Physicians were previously referred to as “leeches,” a Germanic term for counselor, healer, or enchanter.

To doctor means to change things, and so eventually it was used to refer to people as medical doctors, especially as surgery or surgeons became more common.

Anecdotally, the medical doctors I know refer to themselves as physicians and their title is Doctor, much like a professor might refer to themselves as an economist but their title would still be Doctor.

Yes, if you can fill the press room with bootlickers and softball questions, then there's no need to stop the press conferences.

I know that Rachel Maddow is supposed to be gay, but the ball licking she gave Chuck Schumer in her exclusive sit down with yesterday was impressive!

But that's to be expected. She's a liberal on a liberal network. How about the constant bootlicking Hannity gave Trump in every interview? It's to be expected from those partisan networks.

I don't really care about the title doctor. I just think that if you are a physician, well the name carries a bit more weight. Don't care about the semantics. If I decided to put that Dr in front of my name I actually would be a bit embarrassed. Just like I am a veteran but don't publicize it on my car, wear hats, shirts, etc. Reason why is I didn't do anything but serve. I wasn't on the front line. While in the Navy, I never went "haze grey and underway" Did all my time on shore. Closest thing to combat I saw was playing war games on Iceland and being in boot camp during the first Gulf War.

To other veterans I am a light weight. I don't belong to any clubs or anything because I am a bit ashamed that I don't deserve the right to say "veteran" I think those who risked their lives do. So kind of feel the way with Dr. You save lives or try to make people's lives better, you get the title. If you simply are just into history, well just go by your first and last name.

Sure your education is an accomplishment and nobody is wrong for flaunting it. I just think a different way

We had a guy at my company who insisted everyone call him Dr Elias (i think his name was) because he was a doctor in literature or something. Everyone hated that guy.
