It's impossible to weed out who needs it and who doesn't and get money to those that need it. Better that people get money they don't need to help people who need it get money.

I agree with you. But honestly, it shouldn't be that hard to just claw the money back from people who didn't need it. That's what we did. Anyone who applied got 2k a month for like 7 months or something like that. The revenue agency can worry about it getting it back from people who didn't qualify. Personally, we're lucky. I never stopped working, got no raise and my bonus sucked but all things considered I'm good. Wife never stopped working either. But a lot of people have gotten killed financially by this thing and sadly those least capable of riding out a mess were most likely to be impacted. The US government's reaction to this has been as poor as one would expect it to be.

I figured that out a long time ago. There's a certain income you need to in order to pay for everything you need and have some extra money put aside. But after that, your happiness doesn't go up with your income. I was interviewing for a promotion years ago (job ended up getting killed so it didn't happen) and I noticed something; every single person above me at work was divorced. My boss, his director, her VP, etc. You quickly realize that maybe an extra 15 grand (or whatever it would have been) really ain't that important. If you gave me an extra 10 grand a year I'd take it but the impact on my life would be almost zero.

I agree but it’s a fine line because more people would have taken advantage of it. Unemployment is a joke in the states.

I feel the worst for the average blue collar worker. Middle management and sales can do zoom or Skype or whatever you like. Guys that work the fryer at kfc can’t exactly phone in.

You'd know that better than me, i just think the main role of government on this was to help people who lost their jobs. That shouldn't be that hard for the IRS to figure out qualifications afterward. That said, you also heard so many stories of people getting enhanced unemployment and choosing to not go back to work. I don't know what the answer is to that issue. I haven't been out of work since i got my first job when i was 12 so i'm kind of an outlier.

yup, me too. We've tried like to hell to make sure we kept supporting all the local places that we did in the past for that reason. I'm lucky, I can work out of my basement, most people don't have that luxury.

Couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly. Can’t take it with you, either.

Gotta be happy before you get the raise. Not hoping for happiness when you get the raise.

Those are usually the best one's, too. You might end up paying a bit more but the quality is almost always superior.
