So US enemies take note: don't send icbms or bombers, just float your nukes on high altitude balloons if you wanna catch us flat-footed. Oh wait, Biden's National Security Team will see 'em, but just let 'em float across the country to "study" them.

It's really remarkable how this whole thing is being twisted to make it sound like this shit was going on during past administrations but this particular balloon was discovered, tracked and eventually shot down because the current administration is so much more on the ball. Newsflash, it was discovered because it was so big, it was visible to the naked eye on the ground by the public.

I am not calling out rchop: his counterpoints are usually thoughtful and inoffensive, but, off board, I see a narrative taking hold that 'three balloons came into US airspace during Trump;' I am waiting for it to gain traction.

The irritating thing about this is not so much about who was derelict in what, but that people will trump Party over the well being of the Nation: people, on both sides, are only concerned about being "right."

OK, I'm still more curious about why the Pentagon advised as they did whether it was once or several times.

I think more likely than not there was a previous balloon since there is tracking data over the south from Texas to Florida of it. Regardless Trump, Biden or any other president why is the Pentagon advising let it go over mainland? Can shoot it down over water in the pacific before hand. While Biden completely botched the optics PR wise I am still more curious about the recommendation itself.
I actually give credit to Trump if there was and it did not leak. Spy vs spy shit shouldn't be public. Regardless the policy emanated from the Pentagon so why? Also if we have tracking data in retrospect with previous but did NOT in real time then how the hell did we miss it in real time? So beyond Biden doing shitty PR there are bigger questions for the Pentagon to answer that may or may not be a bigger concern.

I asked around today and no one will like the answer.

This is actually a pretty common occurrence, they do it to us, we do it to them, we do it to Russia, they do it to us. The actual unusual protocol was us shooting it down.

When China says "violation of international practice", they aren't wrong. I am sure Matthis didn't tell Trump because he knew what Trump's response as CIC would be.
