Dude I am republican. I am not a big trump thumper. He did good. He did bad. But he care(d)about America.

You know I get that other countries envy us and we are gifted that we have a fairly decent country most of the time. However, it doesn’t mean that everyone needs to be here. Nothing racist or any bias like that. But we have our own issues. Get people out of poverty and look out for US, then let people in. You want a net positive. These border crossings are just costing us money that we don’t have.

I don’t know anyone who wants illegal immigration.

I think I have pretty plainly laid out the case over the past 6-7 years that nothing has stopped illegal immigration since the end of the Bracero program except the US economy tanking and COVID year 1. In fact, restrictive, hardcore policies have ended up making things worse, counterintuitively, because they encourage seasonal migrants to stay and become a permanent illegal class.

We have a 2,000 mile border, and the cartels have ladders and shovels. We can’t stop drugs coming over the border and, once here, can’t stop them coming into prisons. We aren’t stopping illegal immigration if there is demand to come here, and we aren’t going to shoot them (and shouldn’t) for doing so.

The best way to make our border secure (yes, I want that, too) is to enforce employment and labor laws, and make a separate, non-citizen path to entry for those with a job. Take all the people coming for the opportunities Americans aren’t taking and end black market, labor-based immigration. Then Border Patrol is back to concentrating on stopping those who mean us harm and not desperate parents leaving desperate situations to pick strawberries and start a better life.

I don't know what will work with Mexico but I don't think our border policy tha thasn't changed (been told her that Biden is doing no different than Trump, Obama, GW, etc) is working. So either annex Mexico or lets enforce our laws to maybe how Canada, UK, Germany, etc do it. Europe always is put up on a pedestal about how they do things. Lets copy their border policy.

Yep, used to audit the some of the Maquiladoras and also did verifications for Federal Block grant money for the Colonias. People would be shocked at the 3rd world level abject poverty here in the United States. Been to Haiti and sad to say they have it better than the Colonias.

I’m sure my experience there was nothing like yours, especially since I haven’t been there in over 15 years.
