How much fraud is going on with all these billions being handed out to pay off tuitions?

Best thing about his forgiveness is that if it gets overturned for being illegal, the Democrats will say "you see those evil GOP'ers...that Supreme Court needs to be stacked"

Meanwhile the common sense of everything is if you don't want to owe money, don't take a loan. Nobody forced people to go to college. Its not like Suge Knight forced everybody to go to college by hanging them over a hotel balcony like Vanilla Ice. You had a choice. You took a loan. No different than your house, car, etc

Oh I know "well I was young and didn't know"

Meanwhile thousands if not tens of thousands of 18 year old kids sign up for the military. They are supposedly the less intelligent 18 year olds too. Yet nobody cries for them and them ending up with limbs or life loss.

At the end of the 2023 fiscal year (September 2023), three branches reported falling short of their recruitment goals: the Navy was at 80% of its target number, the Army was at 77%, and the Air Force was at 89%

Here's another tid bit of what the Rs are thinking. Got this email today.
The RSC aka Republican Study Committee budget implies making the Social Security COLA discretionary — meaning Congress and the President decide if and when COLAs are provided — not automatically as they are now as a part of a mandatory program.

I'm on SS the COLA doesnt keep up with inflation dollar for dollar but does help. The above is a new wrinkle and a cut.

Do nothing and in just a few years it's 20% cuts across the board for all Social Security recipients.

Cuts just aren't popular, period. No one outside of a handful really care about the US budget. It doesn't affect them. What does affect them is cutting something they benefit from.

To paraphrase McConnell advising Trump, no one loses an election spending more.

You can't win on that platform, the voters are a big part of the problem.

I'm ok with no SS cola if my medicare supplement stays the same every year ,taxes, insurance, you get the picture. I know how to live cheap . I also paid into SS 44 years so did my employer. Oh I forgot all that money is gone even after the 83 fix ... excuse me benefits cut and increased FICA.

I feel for you. I just don't think anything is going to happen until those mandatory cuts loom or get implemented. But if we wait that long, then those relying on it are screwed.

    So, who gets cut? Me?

The reason you can't cut is because it's THEIR fault. You can't go to the American people with that bullshit. They need to get creative.

I'm guessing SS is just gonna kick in way later. Or it'll be discounted if you take it earlier (as we do here). I'll start taking my government pension at 60.

Thanks LM. Funny how this site warped into a bunch of old guys talking about Social Security instead of Edward Van Halen. 70 million Van Halen fans with canes.
Btw the average SS benefit is only $1,767.03/ month. It gets taxed again on a sliding scale based on other income you make. It's not for flying to Hawaii and partying. It's meant to offset your main expenses in retirement like food, electric, insurance and phone. All of which have gone up immensely with this huge inflation. So we've already been cut despite the tiny cola . Inflation is a tax. Milton Friedman

While the RNC calls people about the "massive fraud" of the 2020 election, the White House decided to get dishonest themselves by comparing student loan forgiveness to PPP loans that were forgiven. There is a difference between loans/grants to keep paying your employees because the government shut down your business (and were envisioned as a grant, more or less) and loans you took out in exchange for a service and you promised to pay back.
