A real feel-good little tune, and Dave stayed in his ideal range. I love it.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

We can hope but those are tracks that belong to the label and were rejected for release. Completely different than the multitude of music Ed has at 5150 in various state of completion. I’m far more interested in the 5150 possibilities. But I’ll take whatever we can get.

Yeah, I saw "re-issue" and my first thought was WB would be putting out the 6-pack again with added unreleased songs included with each one. Definitely excited about whatever we get. I just had to laugh since I've already purchased several copies of those albums in various forms over the years.

These would be pretty much everything that the band recorded from 77-82 at Sunset Sound. To each their own, but I don't understand how any VH fan could not be excited about this.

And saying they were "rejected" as if they are subpar...well I'd consider stuff like Light In The Sky, Big Trouble, Voodoo Queen etc to be FAR from subpar. Just because it was decided those tunes didn't fit on the records they were working on doesn't make them rejects. I guess Fools, IASR, and TYWH were rejects since they didn't end up on either of the first two records. House Of Pain was a reject for almost a decade. If the band had stayed together, many of these probably would've eventually made it onto a record.

Anything we might get is better late than never.

Lol, yeah, I think the only way they get me to buy em again is if they added a bonus disc of live material from each corresponding tour for all the albums.

They really should've done that with the remasters.

The demo version of House of Pain is one of my favorites. I was listening to those old demos recently and that one just really stood out this time. Must've been nice for them to have that treasure trove of material to glean from over the years. Man, they were fuckin' great even before they were fuckin' great.

THIS should have been Van Halenized and been the first single from ADKOT.

He’s sounds better there than anything after A Little Ain’t Enough.

WB's lust for cash is probably going to get the demos released professionally.

Edit: looked him up, he did the Woodstock Box Set, he's supposedly the man for going back to older, lower quality sound recordings and cleaning them up.
Looks like maybe it will be sooner than later!

TapeOp magazine interview with Brian Kehew from 2013:

I would guess that a lot of songs that you've mixed are never going to be heard.

Brian Kehew: Sadly. Some of the best stuff is still not out, for political or band reasons. There are lots of amazing Van Halen tracks that could come out.

Unfortunately - and this is sadly true - most people throw away outtakes. On all the Van Halen tapes, all the alternate takes are usually gone.

I have tons of Van Halen no one has ever heard, amazing stuff they recorded and never released.

But they threw out every other take of "Hot For Teacher" except the master.

The Van Halen tapes were incredible to work on.

We were given a project for a proposed box set of the David Lee Roth years, outtakes and rarities.

We went through every tape that's in the vault, mixing some truly great, unheard music. They were perhaps the last famous band that grew up by playing bars and clubs doing cover songs, so they had skills like the Beatles from working covers and originals.

Don Landee did a great job recording Eddie's guitar. It was so interesting and distinctive. Not what other people were doing.

I believe he did that in 2005. The vault is WB pacific NOT 5150 vault or Daves.
