Count me in for a Crosby "meh" on Clapton. I give him his props and like a lot of his music but anybody worth their salt in the game should be lining up to praise Ed.

The fact that Clapton hasn't speaks volumes.

Claptonís playing never did much for me. But it is OK in Cream, but I was never like a big fan of even that. Itís so funny that I like Ed so much and his biggest idol is just a total bore to me. Ed himself has said he was only a fan of Clapton when he was in Cream.

I'm far from being the biggest Clapton fan in the world, I own maybe one Cream record. I'm mentioning him because Eddie was massive fan. If you want to bring in Eddie's influences, of course they, being from an older generation, will not have been influenced by him. Just have Clapton play I'm So Glad, one of EVH's favorite jams ever. It makes sense to me, to honor him.
And some people say AVH won't play with anyone. I don't think it's guaranteed that Al, at a memorial for his brother, won't play. He only played with Ed while Ed was alive. But now, he might think differently.
Put it this way - I'm sure Eddie would not have wanted Al to never play drums again. He would want Al to play, and Al knows it.

One thing I give Clapton a great deal of respect for was his recent movie wherein he lays bare his behavior toward many people over a great majority of his career. He admitted in interviews and in the movie itself just how much of a dick he could be at times. Especially while under the influence of alcohol.

He was embarrassed to the point that in promotional interviews he mentioned how painful it was watching footage of him completely shitfaced drunk and snorting cocaine and insulting people left and right.

In some ways he's much like Ed in that he's actually quite shy and hid behind various substances over the years to deal with fame, fans, pressures of the music business, etc.
"People say Cream gave birth to Heavy Metal," says Baker. "If that's so, we should have had an abortion."

Definitely need a full time VH channel. Tom Petty has one and while I like him fine, heís not had near the influence of EVH.

It's also because of the time period we heard about Clapton. We discovered him in the 80s, and he was definitely not "with the times." EVH discovered Clapton in the late 60s, at his peak, when people were writing "Clapton is God" all over London.
It's like if you show a picture of Motley Crue to kids today, they'll be totally confused and not understand why the guys were the way they were back in their heyday.

I thought I heard a clip of a Howard Stern show where Stern said he didnít think Clapton was so great and Eddie said he was great when he was on heroin
