Rolling Stone started appreciating VH during the Sammy years. I don't remember a cover with Dave (I could be wrong). Their album reviews of VH records were often negative during the 6 pack years. Now they seem to present themselves as the "VH Tribute authority." Guitar World has far more legitimacy as far as coming up with a credible tribute issue, IMO.
Fuck Rolling Stone. The issue on the stands now "Remembering Eddie Van Halen" is 14.99 and is mostly a reprint of previous articles and their 100 greatest guitarists. Its a complete joke. The online stuff is much better. But still fuck Rolling Stone. I am very interested to see what Guitar World puts out.

Rolling Stone also routinely trashed Led Zeppelin. Enough said.

Well of course, they don't rap. Or talk and whine or whatever it is they do now. Strangely I miss real rap now.

I have that issue, and there's just a tiny blurb about him. I think this issue was done b4 he passed.

From the Rolling Stone tribute issue:

"“I’ve got tons of music,” he told me in December 2008. “Close to a million CDs, cassettes, boxes and boxes and boxes.” The styles ranged from classical to world music, Janie chimed in on the phone. “The stuff is gonna come out,” Eddie promised. “Hopefully people will enjoy the many sides of me. I trip on it myself.”"

Btw, I found this piece needlessly disrespectful towards Mike. You can't quote from Noel Monk's book without giving some context, without explaining the 25/25/25/25 split, etc. The writer read Val's book, Greg's, Sam's, Dave's and Noel. But it doesn't look like he's had any other source of information.

I guess that's what we have to prepare ourselves for, a lot of new Van Halen "experts" who got their diploma on October 7.

That's true, remember....Rolling Stone folks are the reason it took so long for VH to be inducted into the HOF.

That's a bunch of horseshit if ever a horse has taken one.

VH should have been one of the most no-brainer, first ballot HOF inductees there's been.

But Nirvana got in immediately, as did Pearl Jam. GnR got in. Fucking GREEN DAY was a first ballot. They should have had to wait 20 years, if they got in at all. And then bands like Boston, Priest, Maiden, etc, STILL aren't in?

Van Halen completely wastes all those bands across the board...sales, influence, talent, etc.....and had to wait like 5 years or whatever it was.

So screw Rolling Stone for being all over Eddie's jock only now that he's passed. Yeah, appreciate the man now, since you really didn't when he was alive. Not like he should have been.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -
